I worked at one of YC's fastest growing startups and made it to senior management. Most of my equity was in the form of refreshers. When I eventually left, I couldn't afford to exercise my options, so I took out a non-recourse loan. The outcome was extremely painful👇

When raising a fund, the LPs all want a story. A thesis. Theme. Specialization. But the story to raise money won’t help you make money. It just doesn’t work that way. Anyone can tell a nice story. Marketing is not investing. – at Menlo Park, CA
