Multiyear Baremetal compute = crude oil
On-demand compute = petrol at the pump
People don't hedge prices of petrol at the pump. @ComputeDesk publishes "crude-oil" indexes of compute, like WTI and Brent crude. Other index providers publish on-demand rates. I'm not aware of successful petrol-at-the-pump indexes. Check out compute-desk.com

There's been so many failures in the last few years on 2 point conversions and crazy ass finishes.

Mark Andrews should’ve been off the ravens after this play if we’re being honest . The fact that the ravens gave him a new deal is nasty

Expert Takeaways: Inference
> GPU Rental Rates Up ~20%: Driven by HBM supply constraints. Neo-cloud providers are passing hardware cost increases straight to tenants via shorter 1–3 year contracts rather than taking margin cuts.
> HBM4 Bottlenecks Capping NVIDIA Vera: NVIDIA’s Vera GPU faces manufacturing constraints—HBM4 issues restrict output to 100k–200k units vs. its 400k–600k theoretical capacity.
> Low-Latency ASICs Gaining Share: Agentic AI is splitting workloads into general vs. ultra-fast inference. Low-latency hardware currently sits at 5–10% market share and is projected to reach ~40% long-term.
> Etched Hits ~60k Tokens/sec: By stripping general-compute circuitry, Etched boosts transformer utilization to ~90%. It has raised $10B in fresh capital with deployments at Jane Street & JPMorgan.
> Groq Commercial Strategy: Offering 50% discounts on cached prompts and batch APIs. LPX service baseline priced at $0.05–$0.09 per million input tokens, with native integration for Rubin.
> Groq LPU Benchmarks across Kimi Models: Kimi 1.5 reaches ~1,000 tokens/s, Kimi K2 delivers 400–450 tokens/s, and multi-LPU Kimi 3 hits ~250 tokens/s.
> Cloud Benchmark Breakdown (Kimi K2.5): Together AI hits 450 tokens/s (1.37s latency), Fireworks AI leads on speed with sub-second latency (354 tokens/s), and standard neo-clouds trail at 338 tokens/s (1.86s latency).

BREAKING: Blackstone acquires Marvin Harrison Jr. in an all-stock deal to take the former 4th pick private.
“This deal will unlock MHJ’s potential through operational improvements and a focus on long-term value creation, insulated from the short-term demands of fantasy owners.”

Forward curves for futures allow CFOs to hedge and project costs effectively. They also provide a roadmap and security for lenders. Futures on compute will feed and nurture growth throughout compute, AI, data centers and jobs that come with all three.
There's a misconception:
"a big compute market doesn’t imply a big hedge market. [...] a lot of capacity is locked into fixed-price deals."
The entire compute market today is *FULLY* hedged. Fixed-price deals ARE the hedge. But, it's a horrible *full* hedge.
Compute derivatives will replace the "offtakes" with instruments allowing a finer-grained control over risk.
Sellers hate offtakes, because they want to get better rates on riskier shorter-term rentals. Buyers also hate them, because they want flexibility.
Compute derivatives allow more risktaking and more flexibility. The reason there's a compute shortage is that risk-taking and speculation is not possible.
This is otherwise a fantastic article, thanks for the @ComputeDesk mention.

The US AI bubble is resting on 3 key assumptions: 1- shortage of compute 2- no roadblocks to the infra rollout and 3- there will be ample financing to support the outlandish capex spend assumptions.
Let’s take these one by one and put it past the Casio stress test.

This is a good article on the economics of data centers that walks through the GPU rental prices, residual values, implications of useful lives vs technological obsolescence, and finally the implications of the different forms of financing structures by comparing $NBIS and $CRWV.
In the race to ramp up, Nebius $NBIS and CoreWeave $CRWV have similar gross debt to annualized Q2 revenue, at 3.7x and 3.4x, respectively.
The difference lies in how much liquidity each has to offset debt – Nebius has net debt of 0.2x annualized revenue, compared to CoreWeave’s 2.9x, giving it higher flexibility to build capacity.

GPU financing is getting even more creative. The pattern i keep hearing about:
- Raise a seed/Series A round from a top 5 VC on a hypemaxxed idea.
- Other VCs pile in and now you have $800M
- Use $700M to buy GPUs
- When the hypemaxxed idea inevitably doesnt work, you have a small neocloud to fall back on.
- No VC pushes back or sues for fear of the tier 1 VC cutting them off of deal flow.
