Caitlin Clark brought more attention to the WNBA. That doesn’t mean the players already there, especially the Black players, were inferior or had nothing worth marketing.
Some of these new “fans” seem more interested in using her excellent play to validate their political, racial, and cultural grievances than in the basketball itself. They’ve cast her as their Great White Hope, and every game becomes another front in their culture war.
That’s unfair to Indiana fans who actually love their team and the game. It’s unfair to the Black players playing now and the women who built this league. And it’s unfair to Clark herself.
