I mean you never said "We need more newer mecha anime in the last decade or something" so people will assume that what you meant was in generally timeline wise so he is still not wrong.
Its like saying "We need more gothic clothes brands" and not specify if like the past decade or all time so people will naturally assume that you are speaking in general which is all time. So yes his point still stands.
Have you watched all those mechas before the 2000s, or only the new ones, because if you're asking about something and but haven't watch them, why are you asking, when you can go back watch all of those.
