I was 20 years old when I joined the Navy.
Twenty years later, I’m retiring with a cool project:
My kids and I are going to open 20 hobby boxes, one from every year I served.
2007–2026 as the 20-box core, with 2027 as a special retirement/finale box.
I’m collecting one licensed hobby box from each year, and every Friday I’ll share the next box along with a piece of what was happening in my life and Navy career that year.
Some are already on the shelf. Some I’m still hunting down.
When all 20 are together, we open them.
20 years of service.

I was 20 years old when I left for Navy boot camp. I turned 21 shortly after graduating, then finished A-school and officially started a career I had no idea would last 20 years.
The first box of my retirement project: 2007 Bowman Baseball.

In 2008, I PCS’d from Pensacola to San Diego.
At the time, I thought my Navy career would probably be spent mostly at shore commands. That was the path most common in my rating.
Instead, I chose the path less traveled.
That decision completely changed what I thought my career could be and became the beginning of a much more challenging and rewarding journey than I ever expected.
