The fact that Waitrose won makes me chuckle.

This is why we need to start managing the population for biosecurity and welfare. Properly. Not the forestry boys tarting around on the weekend for a bit of overtime.
If I had a € for every time someone told me Wolves are the answer to Wild Boar nos. I'd be rich. Here are 2 clips from the Tuscan "Parco di San Rossore", the 🇮🇹 Republic's presidential hunting reserve, now a wildlife research centre. Watch how team boar sees off team wolf. 1/

Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed at a premises near Biggar, Scottish Borders. All bird keepers must remain vigilant and follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks. See: gov.scot/publications/avian-… for details. #BirdFlu

Sows also instinctively savage and cannibalise piglets on occasion. Getting rid of farrowinf crates will give them a great chance to express that natural behaviour. Still. I guess we can drop the lysine in the ration a bit. So every cloud.
🐖 Before giving birth, a mother pig's instinct is to build a nest. But most indoor mother pigs in Britain are confined in farrowing crates so small they can't even turn around. Tell the Government it's time to #EndTheCageAge: bit.ly/3VIH9zc

Not one mention of no-stun. Anywhere. So perhaps thats what we should do? Just move to no stun? I want to see the back of CO2 because its one less stone to throw and there are better options. But its infuriating that these imbeciles wont back a call for and end to no-stun.
The UK Government have at last launched a consultation on ending the inhumane CO2 slaughter of pigs 🐖 It's about time and let us hope that this could truly bring about significant change #AnimalsMatter Read more: bit.ly/4yCynQR

Let's suspend it. For 5 years. Pay keepers and estates for lost income to do nothing. And then assess the countryside at rhe end. Rights of way. Wildlife. And so on. Those who wish it all to go forever I am sure will find the evidence they need to ban it. Problem solved.
The government have launched a call for evidence on the rearing, release and shooting of gamebirds in England, which closes on Sunday 1 November. GB News’ Yorkshire and Humberside Reporter, Anna Riley, goes to a game shoot in Nottinghamshire to see how changing the rules would impact a traditional British countryside pursuit.

So. A vegetarian is being an expert on this. If you're not eating the product. Why would we care? Be like a straight person advocating a ban on gay marriage. Would it not?

They don't have to when its free. And will recieve copious amounts of government funding year to year to run it.
But what do the Wildlife Trusts know about sustainable upland farming? I mean it, what do they actually know about making upland farms sustainable in the widest sense of the word? I’m yet to see an NGO/GO do this… they nearly always get mission creep and get rid of farmers

Shocker.

Ahem 😮‍💨 CBAM Cutting fertiliser tax my arse. How to tell us you know nothing of your JD without telling us you know nothing of your JD. Or just desperately covering up a massive walloping let down that was #budget26 Wheeled out to defend the indefensible as predicted 🙄
This Budget includes a strong package for the countryside, food security and economic growth: We're cutting fertiliser and food costs, making it cheaper to clear illegal waste sites, extending red diesel relief and reviewing tax relief for agricultural infrastructure

No proposed alternative from CIWF. Presumably so they can object to whatever come next. And whatever comes after that. The industry moved to CO2 largely under pressure similar to this.
PIGS URGENTLY NEED YOU 🐷 Head to the link to submit your response to the UK consultation on ending CO2 pig slaughter. It takes 2 minutes. You have until 21 December. 📩 bit.ly/3W1vfAC

The number of "sanctuaries" appealing for carved pumpkins in insane. I hope there is some snap inspection work going on. These people are going to be the centre of an ASF outbreak.
It’s nearly #Halloween! #Pumpkins can only be fed to livestock, including #Pigs, if they have NEVER entered a kitchen and the carving utensils have never been in contact with products of animal origin. This helps to prevent diseases like #Africanswinefever gov.uk/guidance/african-swin…

Utterly despicable. God help you if you're a farmer who falls under a urban forces area.
🚨 A sheep farmer has been left facing losses of about £23,000 after 53 lambs were killed and another 14 seriously injured in a dog attack in Wigan. Steven Blacklidge said he was 'horrified' after being told police would not authorise further enquiries, citing insufficient evidence and budget pressures, despite new livestock worrying laws coming into force earlier this year. Greater Manchester Police has since confirmed an investigation is underway and said it is taking the incident 'incredibly seriously'. Read the full story: ow.ly/SONj5101pol

One of the most bizarre comments I've ever read from an alleged 'nature-friendly account. "It does no one any good and just encourages hedgehog lovers to hate and be afraid of badgers." Guess what, nature actually depends on everything eating something. If that causes someone to 'hate' it, they should leave conservation and nature topics the f*ck alone and go back to reading Wind in the Willows. Also, hedgehogs aren't people - just because they eat one, doesn't mean they'll eat the other. 🙄JFC

This is the way the world ends. Take heed.
If you’re visiting anywhere that keeps farm animals this half term, please don’t feed them your left-over food waste. It’s illegal and can spread deadly diseases like #AfricanSwineFever and #FootAndMouthDisease. Please use the bins provided. gov.uk/government/collection…

I am not the biggest fan of CO2 stunning. But consider it insane that this is having public money spent on it because of Waitrose man and woman groups like CIWF. Instead of non-stun slaughter. Although if we ban CO2 stunning here we would ban all such imports... right?
🚨 BREAKING: The Government has launched a consultation on ending the use of CO₂ to slaughter pigs. More information to follow.

Gov direction (and the mouthpieces they implore) is getting quite frankly ridiculous for farmers Do we want “tidy farms” to pass Red tractor tests, or do we want unkempt farms to do its thing for nature and habitats? What other sector has to work with such moving goalposts?

Lot of battery farmed beef in this country. Takes some serious convincing to get an 800kg bullock into a dog crate. But if you don't think I can do it, you've never seen me work.
It's really not a controversial opinion: animals need space, not cages. 🐔🐰🐷
