Governor DeSantis says voting YES on Amendment 3 will increase the tax base and ultimately increase the amount of tax revenue collected.
“What's going to happen when you put thousands of dollars back in people's pockets? They're going to put that to use in the economy. The economic base is going to get bigger. You're going to end up collecting taxes, not by raising taxes or imposing new taxes, but on the current system that you have, you will do more revenue.
You know I know that? Because that's what's happened in Florida. How is it that we're cutting taxes, we're eliminating some taxes, and yet we are taking in more revenue? There were times when we were taking in so much more overestimate. I remember they do these budget estimates, they're always wrong, but the extent to which they were wrong.
‘Oh, sir, we've got revenue estimate from November had us at certain, and we're actually $1.2 billion over that!’ I mean our whole budget's $117 billion, so to have $1 billion over the estimate of revenue, that was what was happening. We still come in overestimate a lot of times, but even now, but then it was like very hot.
So you will absolutely see positive impacts on the economy, and so a local tax base will actually be stronger in all these other areas. You will collect more if people consume in sales tax, you'll collect more in some of these things. Again, that's not by raising tax or taxing people more than you are now.
It's about recognizing the benefit that that will have to the economic base.”
