#Riftbound1Year I think my favorite memory was judging the top 8 match at #RQHartford between Mirru and Bradykin. It was an entertaining match and both players were some of the kindest human beings in the scene 😊

#RiftboundQOTD: -insert huehuehuehuehue- 1) I have two <<Mordekaiser Twice Slain>> in combat. During combat cleanup, Mordekaiser A dies from lethal damage while Mordekaiser B continues to live. Is it possible for me to save both by: A] assuming I have no other friendly units, having them "kill" each other? If so, how? If not, which Mordekaiser dies? B] killing one other friendly unit? ----- 2) Let's say I only have 3x <<Mordekaiser Twice Slain>> and a Recruit that all die simultaneously. How many units at max can be saved?

A: 1] (373.) covers simultaneous events occurring that replacement effects can apply to. 2] is interesting because "chaining" the deaths (where A kills B, B kills C, and C kills Recruit) doesn't cause 3 Mordekaisers to live. Once A kills B, B has already tried to apply saving its death from the previous damage/kill. So B will no longer exist by the time its replacement effect is next in the sequence (373.2.). nitter.cf/Ciberciv/status/211619…
Replying to @Doowan_
1) A] No. Replacing Morde A would kill Morde B and vice versa, and they're once per turn. B] Yes, just replace Morde A's death killing the other unit 2) At most 2. Replacement effects apply in order, so one would kill the Recruit and now two Morde are killed, one kills the other

👻👻 #RiftboundQOTD 👻👻 I played <<Last Caress>>. During a Closed State, I want to play <<Nidalee Cat Form>> as my next unit. Am I allowed to play Kha'Zix onto an empty battlefield?

#RiftboundQOTD: It's Throwback Thursday! I use <<Hidden Blade>> on an enemy unit at a battlefield. Does my enemy draw 2 if: 1) their unit has a <<Guardian Angel>> attached? 2) they use <<Flash>> on their unit? Please use the new Radiance rules terminology to explain why! :)

A: Newly updated rule 359.3.e.6. introduces the term “ignored” and “negated”! Since Hidden Blade has linked instructions (“its”): 1) NEGATED - The target was still satisfied upon resolution. Therefore, its latter half of the instruction still executes and draws 2 (359.3.e.14.b.). 2) IGNORED - Because the target no longer meets the restriction (359.3.e.12.), its latter half of the instruction is also ignored and does not result in drawing 2 (359.3.e.14.a.).

Still fostering them. We’re taking them to the shelter’s intake department for fixing and vaccination! Hope we can continue to foster them after. Here’s an updated photo of them in the meantime. They’ve grown a bit already 🥹

#RiftboundQOTD: I play <<Drakehound Protector>>. My enemy reveals a <<Ki Burst>> at the top of their deck. If I have a readied unit and my enemy only has a unit with Deflect, am I forced to play <<Ki Burst>>?

A: It didn't occur to me that you could also stun your own unit 😅 As the rules currently stand, if you choose your own unit, you are forced to play this card and must exhaust your own unit. If you choose the enemy unit with Deflect, you are able to choose to not pay the resource (445.2.a.) and the card will remain banished. Will address other rule references that a few people brought up: - (405.2.): This rule is talking about Triggered Abilities. We are talking about a card being (unconventionally) played. - (445.2.b.): In regards to paying the additional cost, this rule isn't exactly relevant because it is only referencing to pay standard resources (energy/power). Sadly, we don't have explicit instruction on whether non-standard costs can be "choosing to not pay". nitter.cf/Platonic_V4x/status/21…

#RiftboundQOTD: Policy Wednesday! Eddy is playing <<The Exile>> and has a controlled battlefield. He plays <<Baron Nashor>> but plays it exhausted at the Baron Pit. Mary (opponent) acknowledges the played Baron (with a sigh of defeat). Eddy makes a few actions in his turn with the assumption that his Baron was readied. However, he later realizes the Baron is exhausted. Mary also realizes that and retorts that she would have responded to a few of his actions if she knew Baron was readied. Eddy calls a judge in wanting the Baron to be readied. As the judge, would you allow this? How would you apply the remedy?

#RiftboundQOTD: My <<Blossoming Dreamroot>> has become a unit gear via <<Lady of Clockwork>>. My <<Lulu Whimsical>> (assume this is a prerift) moves and from her trigger, I target Blossoming. How much Might does Blossoming have now?

A: I'm glad someone caught it. When "Might" is used, that means it's Effective Might (143.2.a.1.), which is then only applicable to the Arithmetic layer (479.4.a.). If we were to follow this literal interpretation, it means Blossoming could be 4 + 2 = 6[M]. However, it seems quite obvious that is unintentional and it makes more sense that Orianna is only meant to modify Base Might in the Trait-Altering layer (479.2.a.). Thankfully, we do not have Blue/Green cards that set Base Might, but hopefully she gets future-proofed with an errata if such cards are printed.
Replying to @Doowan_
Interesting. Since there's no printed base might on the gear and Orianna's ability doesn't say "base might" it wouldn't be too far-fetched to say 6. Curious to see how it works under the current rules.

What about Flame Chompers & Immortal Phoenix who don't have the "Play me for [Cost]"? 🥲

#RiftboundQOTD: 1) My enemy deals lethal damage to my <<Mordekaiser Twice Slain>> and another friendly unit with a spell. Can I save Mordekaiser by killing that friendly unit? 2) Let's say my Mordekaiser was the only target of the spell. If I killed another friendly unit to save Mordekaiser, can my enemy still play <<Immortal Phoenix>> from the trash?

A: Relevant rules - 1) 370.1.c., 2) 412.6. nitter.cf/Platonic_V4x/status/21…
Replying to @Doowan_
1.) Yes. Both units would die in the same Cleanup to Lethal Damage. Twice Slain applies his Replacement effect first, killing the other unit to replace his death. 2.) No. The Kill action is attributed to Twice Slain, not the Spell.

#RiftboundQOTD: 2v2 madness. My team is at 10 points (1 away from win), my ally controls 2 battlefields, and the 3rd battlefield is open. On enemy's turn, their unit attacks my ally's battlefield. On my Focus, I play <<Ride the Wind>> to move one of my units from base to the open (3rd) battlefield. Assuming no further cards are played and both showdowns finish, do we win or do all 3 battlefields need to be scored at my enemy's turn?

I made a slight typo that the enemy unit moved to the open battlefield. Nonetheless, let’s assume the enemy lost that showdown and your ally retains control. A: No. You can only get the final point during your turn or your ally’s turn (491.8.g.1.). This is a new update!

HAPPY RADIANCE RELEASE DAY! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE'S PULLS! #RiftboundQOTD: I have a <<K'Sante Dauntless>> at <<Fortified Position>>. My enemy attacks K'Sante. During the combat showdown, I play <<Ntofo Strikes>> and I target K'Sante. What is the maximum amount of damage I can deal to the enemy unit?

A: Mostly everyone got this one! This was testing the timing of defend triggers before Action spells.
Replying to @Doowan_
Spell Damage: 8, Combat Damage: 12. Total 20. Ksante shield(+1) + FP(+2) + Dauntless(x2=+3) for Shield 6 after defender designation applied. Ntofo action speed misses dauntless doubling so only +2 shield, meaning Ntofo would deal 8 dmg and put KSante to 12 might.
