Jeff Bourne’s HC hiring blueprint:
HCs, not coordinators
Proven winners at multiple stops
Strong culture builders
Organized and disciplined
Elite teachers and talent evaluators
Hire strong staffs and delegate
Strong people skills and integrity
The same man hired both Curt Cignetti and Bob Chesney at JMU.
So, I called him up.
Here’s why Jeff Bourne knew they’d both be winners: nbcsports.com/college-footba…

Mike Norvell apologizes for cussing during FSU-Louisville postgame presser.
“I do want to take a minute to apologize. Obviously frustrated there in postgame. I obviously had some words I’d like to have back.
It’s not something I want to do and make sure my language is what it needs to be in all situations.”
I won’t name the recruit, but I was involved in one where Mario straight up outworked Mike on the trail. NIL had little to do with it. This was during MN best 2-year stretch.
The message to the fanbase at the time was once he wins recruiting will get better.
It didn’t.
Coaching Hotboard season
Texas A&M’s Top Candidates to Replace Mike Elko:
1. Kenny Dillingham
2. Jeff Brohm
3. Rhett Lashlee
Outside shot:
-Eric Morris (UNT)
-Brent Key
Insiders believe A&M will be very aggressive with its coaching search.
Per @BrooksVcfb
Norvell and Sexton know his reputation is shot. Poor recruiting, bad evaluations and coaching blunders on display weekly. What major program is giving him another shot? FSU may be his last big payday, and that buyout is his golden parachute.
It is absolutely a destination job with the right leadership.
Serious question: Is Florida State still an elite head coaching job?
Trapped in a weak ACC with no clear path to the SEC or Big Ten. Financial questions. A recruiting brand that no longer carries the same weight it once did.
At what point does FSU stop being a destination job and become a rebuilding project with a legendary logo?
Where does this program go from here?
I’ve always felt Miami would be Norvell’s last game. If UM does what’s expected, the bye week will show whether FSU is serious about fixing this program and restoring confidence among fans.
There’s no guaranteed HC hire out there, but I’m willing to give someone else a shot.
No one wins there
Asked Texas A&M coach Mike Elko what he'd say to Aggie fans who are losing faith in the team.
"There's a difference to me between the fan base and social media. So there's one group that I really don't care much about. Billy's cesspool (at TexAgs) can go be Billy's cesspool. Our fan base, stay with us, be behind us. We're going to build something that we told you we were going to build. So we're in a really bad spot right now, but we'll work our way out of it."
You can’t keep Norvell. If he had a track record of sustained winning, I could understand.
41-37 overall
23-28 in ACC play
Losing overall road record
29-10 with Jordan Travis starting 12-27 without
Six-plus seasons in.
Bad recruiter/evaluator/developer
Time been up

Bro I'm not mad at Mike Norvell at all.
If I got hired to do a job out of my capabilities and my employer kept letting me clock in, is it my fault?
Finally? Few coaches in CFB history have been given this much grace.
After Florida State's blowout loss at Louisville, this finally feels like the end for Mike Norvell

I’d take 9 wins as the floor, flirting with double digits most years and making the playoff every 2-3 years.
If it eventually expands to 24…expectations go up.
FSU football has been irrelevant before October way too often.
