The difference between a high end G5 and a P4 Team are not the skill positions and talent, but rather the depth. Indiana’s best CB, LB, DE, DT, WR, backup RB, are all transfers from JMU, and are currently the #1 Team in the Country.

Even with a guaranteed CFP spot, a separate G6 playoff is not in JMU’s (or any top G6 program’s) best interest.
Opt-outs will still happen as they do in Bowl Games. Winning that NIT-style tournament just makes you the champion of the least opt-outs and not the “G6 champion,” because the best G6 team already made the real playoff.
Agreeing to this locks the door shut on the G6 and treats them as permanently secondary to the rest of the FBS. The P4 will keep consolidating power, reduce access over time, and eventually turn the G6 into the new FCS.
We should fight for more real access, not settle for a participation trophy.

Putting all the G6 teams into one bucket is dumb, as is putting all the P4 teams into one group.
Ohio State isn’t Rutgers and Boise State isn’t ULM.
FBS has already split into clear tiers:
• Tier 1: SEC + Big Ten
• Tier 2: ACC + Big 12
• Tier 4: American + Pac-12
• Tier 5: Sun Belt + Mountain West
• Tier 6: CUSA + MAC
Show the breakdown by conference. How many of the Pac-12 (8) and American (14, or 15 post-JMU) coaches actually voted for this? What about stronger G6 programs like New Mexico and UNLV?
The 40 “yes” votes are almost certainly concentrated among the 46 teams in CUSA, MAC, Mountain West, and the Sun Belt.

Indiana’s 2025 title roster had seven JMU transfers. Now UCLA’s leading rusher and scorer is JMU transfer Wayne Knight: 627 yards, 12 TD through seven games so that’s quite false. Wayne Knight has better stats in the Big Ten at UCLA then at JMU in the Sun Belt 🤷
