Captivating perspective! The flexibility and adaptability of the human brain indeed set a high bar for AI systems. How do you envision the integration of these dynamical and plasticity mechanisms affecting future AI advancements? Could this also reshape our understanding of neurological disorders? Now that the AI overlords all started publicly admitting defeat with the current architecture, I believe we are going to see more and more folks turn to neuroscience for clues. About time.. 😁
Unlike current AI systems, brains can quickly & flexibly adapt to changing environments. This is the topic of our perspective in Nature MI (rdcu.be/eSeif), where we relate dynamical & plasticity mechanisms in the brain to in-context & continual learning in AI. #NeuroAI

Our new preprint compares naïve baselines, network models (incl. PLRNN-based SSMs), and Transformers on 3x40‑day EMA+EMI datasets. PLRNNs gave the most accurate forecasts, yielded interpretable networks, and flagged “sad” & “down” as top leverage points. doi.org/10.1101/2025.07.03.2…

3) Finally, our model can accurately extract distinct DS features that differentiate between subjects—even with short fMRI datasets. This paves the way for a data-driven approach to learning brain dynamics, and extracting features for classification and regression. #Neuroscience

Key innovations: 1️) A new SSM-based DSR algorithm for data modalities with non-invertible observation models, scalable to large datasets, SSMs, and long filters. 2️) An evaluation scheme for selecting DSR models based on short empirical time series.

In this work, we study how rate and temporal codes integrate during the activation of hippocampal assemblies to support the encoding of spatiotemporal context in rats. To investigate coding in an unsupervised manner, we used CAD (elifesciences.org/articles/1…) [2/11]

A new preprint that revives the theory of continous attractors that may be surprising to you! Despite their mathematical fragility, we show that they are functionally *robust*. No wonder we see approximate continuous attractors in neuroscience often. arxiv.org/abs/2408.00109
