This documentary has been gaining a lot of buzz over the past week, so I just watched it last night. Now let's talk about it. You Can See Everything is a documentary which is centered around Elizabeth Holmes who defrauded investors with a machine she created called Theranos which was supposed run any test with just a drop of blood but ended up being defective and at the beginning of the documentary, we see her in her last 30ish days before she actually heads to prison to serve her sentence. Reviewing a documentary is kind of weird because I can't say things like "Hey the cinematography was great, the lighting was great, the acting was so and so" The only thing to really review are the people involved and that's Elizabeth Holmes and her husband Billy Evans who are the most manipulative, controlling, dare I say evil people. After a while, I came to the realization that they weren't hamming it up for the cameras, these people are just that...well, they're that. Nathan Fielder who's the director and was interviewing both Holmes and Evans throughout the whole doc, was saying word for word verbatim, quotes from interviews, court dockets of things they said; both Holmes and Evans just sat there with the kind of faces you expected them to have. I couldn't tell if this documentary was trying to make me have sympathy for her, or if she was trying to do so. By the end, I realized that they're both really toxic people that are terrible for each other while at the same time being absolutely great for each other. My only complaint is the middle of the film really, really drags. To the point where I was about to checkout but...that's when the 3rd act happens and it pulls you in, and that's when the good stuff happens. The movie is essentially 3 hours; did it need to be? maybe not. But there was method to the drag in the middle act I suppose. GRADE: GREAT RENTAL (B) – at Olmos Park, TX
