youtube.com/watch?v=U4h_gIj4… The #Isles Ship 14 - we discuss the 25-26 season. Our final thoughts. Bad Brandon humor, optimistic Eric, Negative Mike and absent John (sadly) discuss the offense, the defense, the GM and coach...and add some grades along the way.

an islanders fan told me today that pelech is terrible lol
It's close, but I'd give the nod to Pelech. Tony is better on entries but he prefers to send those long stretch passes which can spring rush offense, but Pelech is far better on retrievals, buying time and space, and is more efficient in leading controlled zone exits. #Isles

Love context with my numbers. The future of analytics will be side by side with film in real time. I'm excited to see the day.
Everyone is referencing Expected Goals in hockey (which is great) but I think it's fair to be cautious in understanding the differences between each public model and the methodology before posting blanket statements about games or team performance. Just looking at the #NJDevils v #GoSensGo last night, here are some of the 5v5 xG models: HockeyStats: 1.91-1.68 NJ (53.2%) NST: 3.10-1.21 NJ (71.9%) MoneyPuck: 2.18-1.54 NJ (58.6%) HockeyGameBot: 1.86-1.56 NJ (54.4%) PostHockey: 2.05-1.55 NJ (56.9%) NST's shows the Devils dominated at 5v5, whereas the other models just showed a slight advantage towards the Devils. As high as 3.1 xGF but as low as 1.86 for NJ. Also understanding the limitations with public models that are not able to incorporate private information like the player and puck tracking data, which to me is big factor in determining the probability of a shot going in the net (the position of the players on the ice, the positioning of the goaltender, the pre-shot movement, etc.). I love using data for both descriptive and predictive statistics, but there's always context that can be missed when strictly looking at the numbers.

Its great that Palat is playing a lot better this season (on line 4) but what was the point of having 6 million dollars blocking the Islanders from making a move they clearly need for a good bottom 6 player? Isn't that what our entire lineup consists of?
Guy has 2 points in 5 games. Did we miss something? I'm just asking because, after all, I am getting older. #Isles

The Wild needed to get Boldy going so they swapped him with Shabanov and the Wild look great honestly. Wish the Islanders would try Duke or Maccelli over Palms with Bo. The Isles have stunk at 5on5 scoring goals.

#Isles you'll see Islanders fans crap on this saying "oh he's playing with world class players here" You know how many of these guys don't produce in these situations? The examples are of guys WHO DO stick in the NHL. Its not an insult to say he can play with better players.
It is borderline incomprehensible how the New York Islanders (25th in scoring in NHL last season) didn’t have Maxim Shabanov in their lineup half of the season… What a great fit so far in Minnesota with the Wild. Slots right into PP1 w/ goal here #mnwild

This might've been poorly worded, but I had him finishing with 50 points this season. I think he's currently pacing out to around 55. For 1mil. This is what we'd be happy with Brayden Schenn finishing with playing a line or two above where he should be on a good team.

So how do the Islanders become a decent offensive team? You have 1mil Shabanovs on the wings with ELC eklunds and affordable Ritchies surrounded with Bo+Barzal ANOTHER player of their calibre if not better. Team building has been awful for the Islanders for a long time.

I'm surprised at how positive my replies were this evening. I usually log off for my sanity and I think we are in all agreement about that third period from the Lightning game. Team severely lacks killer instinct, and that comes unfortunately with the elephant ITR about talent.
Replying to @DynoDangle
Yes. They play hard. The effort is there. But not dangerous and not that hard to play against… yet. Hopefully everyone starts to gel and the DeB system clicks in soon and things change.

Me and Phil were discussing last nights 3rd period, and I think there are some very good points about how the Islanders generally just aren't all that dangerous. Team works hard, no doubt - outside of the Duke wraparound there really wasn't much despite them controlling play.

Wouldn’t you like one line that could score at 5v5?

The #Isles can hang with anybody, but their slow starts and puck management still need work. What’s working, who’s stepping up and what needs to improve. 20 takeaways through five games @TheElmonters ⤵️ theelmonters.com/p/islanders…

The Flyers' horrible first six game stretch is the worst season start recorded in the analytics era (2007 onward) in 5v5 xGoal share and shot share. It's also the second-worst six-game stretch of 5v5 shot share (33.3%) since then period, and the fifth-worst of xGF% (31.1%)
