Derasat Center Highlights GCC Energy Security Trends and Power Grid Resilience at IEEE PowerTalks 2026 in Oman
The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), represented by Dr. Abdulla Isa Al Abbasi, Director of the Energy and Environment Studies Program, participated in IEEE PowerTalks 2026, recently held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Hosted by Nama Electricity Distribution Company, with support from the Public Services Regulation Authority, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the conference featured Dr. Al Abbasi in a panel titled “The Day After: Rethinking Electricity Security in the Wake of the Middle East Crisis,” which explored the future of energy security and power infrastructure resilience across GCC countries.
Dr. Al Abbasi highlighted the GCC’s significant progress in electricity integration, particularly through the GCC Interconnection Authority, as a successful model of regional cooperation and supply security. He underscored the importance of building on these achievements to expand electricity trade; strengthen coordinated crisis response; leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technologies; and diversify energy sources to ensure balancing supply security, economic efficiency, and sustainability to enhance the resilience and competitiveness of the GCC energy system.
