TEM Explainer Series Part 3: More electricity demand does not automatically have to mean higher household bills. The real question is: Who pays for the infrastructure that new demand requires? Part 3 of our electricity explainer series examines three ways #AI #datacenter growth can pay its own way

A power plant’s bills don’t stop when electricity demand dips. Staff, maintenance and loan payments still need covering. If there’s room to serve them, data centers can help share those costs. More electricity sold. Potentially less for other customers to pay. 👇

⚡ Can the AI data center boom happen WITHOUT driving up electricity bills? @ENGIEgroup North America's interim chief Anne-Laure Chassanite believes it can — but there's a catch. In an exclusive interview with @TheEnergyMag, she explains why the answer depends on where data centers are built, how new power is supplied, and who pays for the infrastructure. Her comparison of Texas and PJM is particularly revealing. 👀 Read the full interview 👇 🔗 theenergymag.com/news/market… #AI #Infrastructure #Energy #DataCenters #Engie

🚨 JUST FILED: Jane Street's reported stake in Cipher Digital ($CIFR) has dropped from 5% to 3%, according to a new SEC filing. The trading giant's disclosed holdings are down approximately 7.2 MILLION shares from its October 2025 filing. Here's what we found 👇 📉 JANE STREET'S $CIFR POSITION ▪️ October 2025: 19.68 million shares (5.0%) ▪️ September 2026: 12.50 million shares (3.0%) ▪️ Change: -7.18 million shares (-36.5%) The amended Schedule 13G was filed TODAY, October 21, and reports holdings as of September 30. 🔍 THE AFFILIATE BREAKDOWN IS INTERESTING: ▪️ Jane Street Capital: ~10.1M shares, up from ~627K ▪️ Jane Street Options: 0, down from ~8.34M ▪️ Jane Street Global Trading: ~232K, down from ~10.72M The new filing also includes holdings through additional affiliates. 📌 WHY IT MATTERS: Last October, Jane Street disclosed stakes of approximately 5% in several bitcoin mining stocks, including $CIFR, $BITF and $HUT. TheEnergyMag covered the disclosures at the time, when Cipher shares jumped nearly 13% in early trading. A year later, Cipher has rebranded as Cipher Digital and is pursuing a major pivot toward AI/HPC data centers, including multibillion-dollar hyperscaler agreements. ⚠️ IMPORTANT CONTEXT: Jane Street is a major market-making and proprietary trading firm. A lower reported stake does NOT necessarily mean it made a directional bearish bet. The filing doesn't establish when or how the position changed. Its September 30 reporting date also predates Cipher's recent $850M convertible debt offering.

Time to take a step back from the political debate over #AI #datacenters and rising electricity bills. Our new explainer series starts with the basics: what you’re actually paying for.
The #AI boom is becoming an electricity-bill debate—and a midterm election issue. Are #datacenters the problem? Introducing TheEnergyMag’s four-part explainer series. With November approaching, concerns about data centers and household energy costs are moving from town halls to the campaign trail. Residents want to know whether they’ll be left paying for infrastructure built to serve Big Tech. But understanding what a new data center could add to your bill starts with understanding what’s already in it. Electricity costs cover more than the power you use. They also cover the system that gets it to your home. EIA’s national electricity price breakdown for 2025 illustrates the split: ⚡ 56%: generating electricity 🗼 14%: moving it over long distances 🏘️ 30%: delivering it locally

🚨 BREAKING: @Bitdeer $BTDR is closing in on its 350 MW AI Cloud target. Bitdeer has secured another 60 MW of AI data center capacity in Malaysia, bringing its reported total to 333.5 MW, or approximately 95% of its target for Q1 2028. The latest deal underscores how quickly Bitdeer is expanding beyond bitcoin mining into AI infrastructure. Here's what you need to know 👇 ▪️ 60 MW expansion: An eight-year data center services agreement for the A103 facility in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. ▪️ Next-gen $NVDA infrastructure: Designed for liquid-cooled, rack-scale NVIDIA systems, including Vera Rubin, with energization expected in Q1 2028. ▪️ 71.5 MW campus: The addition will significantly expand Bitdeer's existing Cyberjaya AI Cloud footprint. ▪️ 333.5 MW secured: Across Malaysia, Norway and the U.S., according to the company. ▪️ $10B+ sales pipeline: Bitdeer estimates potential AI Cloud contract opportunities exceeding $10 billion, in addition to approximately $2.9 billion in previously announced expected contracted revenue backlog. ⚠️ The important distinction: Secured data center capacity isn't the same as contracted customer revenue. Bitdeer has yet to sign customer offtake agreements for the new 60 MW facility, and its $10B+ pipeline is not contracted backlog. Why it matters: With access to power and AI-ready infrastructure increasingly central to the AI buildout, Bitdeer is positioning itself to compete in the GPU cloud market while leveraging its existing energy infrastructure expertise. The next test? Converting those megawatts into energized capacity, customer contracts and recurring revenue. Constellation $CEG and Amazon $AMZN have signed a 20-year nuclear PPA to fund a 190 MW uprate at the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center.⚡️⚛️ Key infrastructure takeaways: The deal anchors $3 billion in investments across the 1,790 MW Maryland facility. The contract covers 690 MW of total power, including the new 190 MW uprate. Power stays front-of-the-meter, flowing directly into the PJM grid. New capacity comes online between 2030 and 2032. Revenue certainty allows Constellation to relicense the plant for another 20 years.
