Halloween is this weekend, and we couldn’t let it pass without sharing a few fall photos! Earlier this month, when we celebrated Customer Service Week, our team decorated pumpkins, built caramel apples, traded appreciation shout-outs, shared treats and plenty more. The week was all about our customer service team across our three offices, the people who pick up when a client has a question about their coverage or needs a certificate before a job starts tomorrow. That work rarely gets noticed when it goes well, and it goes well because of them. So from all of us at Ellerbrock-Norris, thank you again to our service team, and happy early Halloween! 🎃 #CustomerServiceWeek #CompanyCulture #Halloween #LifeAtEN

If you own a subcontracting business, a lot of your risk starts with someone else on the jobsite. Another trade leaves a wet floor, and one of your crew slips. If you can’t show you flagged the hazard, the claim is still yours, and so is the hit to your workers’ comp rates and E-Mod. We put together a guide for subcontractors on managing that kind of risk. It covers contracts, cash flow, safety, liability coverage, crew retention, and long-term planning, with practical steps in each section. As a business grows, the owner usually ends up as the bottleneck. Every decision still runs through you, and more of your day goes to putting out fires than moving the business forward. Building leaders doesn't have to start with a big training budget. It can start with handing off more decisions, letting people see other parts of the business, pairing them with someone experienced and giving them real ownership of a project. 🔗 hubs.li/Q04CwBB80 #LeadershipDevelopment #BusinessOwners #Leadership #BusinessGrowth

Quick question: are you getting The Shield yet? Every week, our newsletter includes a free toolbox talk you can share straight with your team, so you’ve got a ready-to-go safety topic without having to build one from scratch. Alongside it, we highlight resources for business owners on insurance, safety, benefits, and the other pieces of risk that affect how your business runs and grows. Missed our webinar on Nebraska’s workers’ comp changes? Good news: we hit record! Nebraska’s new net reporting rules take effect January 1, 2027, and they could change how claims affect your E-Mod if you’re carrying a deductible. Andy and Chase cover how it works and how to tell whether your business is a good fit, all in about 30 minutes. 🔗 hubs.li/Q04BbhhL0 #NebraskaBusiness #Construction #Manufacturing #BusinessOwner

At 12 people, you know what's happening on every job. Scale to 40 or 50 across sites, and that visibility disappears and the injuries tend to start. You don't need a full-time safety director on day one. You do need oversight back in the system before growth outruns it: outside help on plans and training, plus someone internal who owns it on the ground. In this blog, Andy dives into the risk questions owners always ask – including what breaks first when you grow. Check it out: 🔗 hubs.li/Q04yZ3c10 #Construction #Manufacturing #Safety #BusinessOwner

It's Customer Service Week, and we're celebrating all week long across all of our offices. 🎉 So far we've shared shoutouts, served up breakfast, and today we're treating the team to lunch – with more still to come. Our customer service team is often the first voice our clients hear and the people who make sure nothing slips through the cracks. Being a true partner to the businesses we serve depends on them every single day. We're grateful for everything they do. Thank you! #CustomerServiceWeek #EmployeeAppreciation #TeamCulture #LifeAtEN

Most people quit after a system fails. Tony Wiese stayed long enough to learn why. In 2008, B Street Collision’s first team system blew up — insurance partners gone, techs quitting, seven days a week. “We failed miserably.” He stuck with it long enough to learn what broke, then built 2.0. In this episode of the BMD podcast, Andy and Elliot sit down with Tony on that rebuild, and the systems that helped him grow from one shop to 15+ locations. We are officially one week away – don't miss out!
For years, Nebraska businesses have lost bids against peers in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota, and Colorado – even with identical safety records.    That's because they were already using net reporting on workers' comp deductibles. This meant their mods often looked better on paper while yours took the full claim.   That changes for Nebraska on January 1, 2027. Deductible reimbursements can be credited so less of the claim feeds your EMR, which matters when data center, government, and OCIP work caps mods at 1.0 or 1.1. We’re walking through what it means for your EMR (and for bids that cap at 1.0 or 1.1) in a free webinar on October 8 from 2:00-2:30 CT. Built for NE contractors, trades, and manufacturers with $125k+ in annual WC premium. Save your seat: hubs.li/Q04y2ThX0 #Construction #Manufacturing #Contractors #Nebraska #Trades

A safety program that only matters after someone gets hurt isn't a program – it's a reaction. Gaps on the floor show up later as claims, downtime, and a harder mod. Running safety as ops is one of the clearest ways owners keep work-comp cost controllable. That's why we broke down what real safety consultation covers, and why it's a business move. Blaming “the market” is the easy story. When your application looks like every other shop in the trade, underwriters have no reason to treat you differently. The shops that get a better look usually have something on paper that says so – documentation that holds up, timing that isn’t a scramble at renewal, and a clear narrative about how the work actually runs. You don’t set the market. You do set how your business shows up in it. We put the levers in one place. Check it out: hubs.li/Q04yfs410 #Insurance #WorkersComp #RiskManagement

Risk doesn’t wait until you’ve “got time.” Most owners know that. What they don’t have is a clean answer to the questions that keep circling: what to protect first, how insurance and safety and people actually connect, and who to call when the problem doesn’t fit one department. That's why we sat down and answered six of the questions we hear most. Check it out: hubs.li/Q04xVgxL0 #RiskManagement #BusinessOwners

Worth saving! We broke down the ten most common OSHA violations for construction, and the ten most common for general industry. For each one, we cover the background on why it happens, where businesses tend to trip up, and how to actually prevent it: fall protection, hazard communication, PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and more. Only 30-40% of small businesses carry business interruption coverage, and nearly a quarter never reopen after a disaster. Most find that out only after the fire, the flood, or the cyberattack – once it's too late to do anything but wish they'd looked closer at their policy beforehand. We break down what commercial insurance actually covers, the most common mistakes business owners make, and how to make sure your coverage is working with a real plan, not standing in for one. 🔗 hubs.li/Q04x5CD60 #CommercialInsurance #BusinessOwner #Construction #Manufacturing

Nebraska just changed how workers' comp deductibles get reported, and it can bring your EMR down without changing anything about your operations.
