How did Post Office accountants/auditors clear money laundering checks? If you can introduce that much cash into a set of accouts without a clear paperwork trail and legitimate origin then the money laundering police should be all over you. Why weren't they? Why aren't they now?

I believe that is very true. Therefore it paid profitability bonuses for any employees that were eligible.

How did Post Office accountants/auditors clear money laundering checks? If you can introduce that much cash into a set of accouts without a clear paperwork trail and legitimate origin then the money laundering police should be all over you. Why weren't they? Why aren't they now?

I am led to understand that money extorted from SubPostMasters went into a Post Office suspense account. It lay there for many months before the end of the next financial year. Prior to filing the accounts this money was moved across to 'receipts' thus showing as a trading profit in the P&L Statement. The accountants carrying out the audit should have queried whence this money came. They probably knew though.

Thank you, Lee. £17.6m in legal costs to compensate 111 postmasters the courts had already cleared. That's about £158,500 each in fees. Every pound of it is public money. Heather died waiting. Pay the victims first.

It’s heartbreaking. Nothing is so complex that it should take decent honest people so long to be put back to the position they should have been in. Well, unless the wrongdoers are purposefully making sure it is not being allowed to happen.
