At least six bomb threats across Europe today. LOT at Modlin, SAS at Chopin, Ryanair at Murcia and Rome, another one into Sofia... Every one ended the same way: land, evacuate, tow to an isolated stand, and let the bomb squads go through it. What's really going on?

Cargo smoke warning lit up on an A330 during descent into Colombo last week. The SriLankan UL605 coming in from Melbourne landed without drama, and it turned out the source was just dry ice packed with a meat shipment. Dry ice turns into CO₂ as it sublimates, and in a closed cargo hold that cold vapour can easily set off a detector. Again, CO₂ likes to pool in enclosed spaces. How much is loaded, how it’s packed matter, which is why dry ice has quantity limits and proper marking requirements in the first place. 📸 AeroCorner

I have spent a good time with the KDF (Avionics) aeronautical engineers at their stand. Led by Gen Kimanzi, he took his time to explain to me the dynamics of helicopters. They're quite different to fixed wing airplanes. Helicopters take off vertically but their propellers are also aerodynamically made like the planes wings to maximize wind for take off. We later spoke about some of the helicopter crashes that have happened around the world. Let me be clear that we did not zero in on any as that's the express work of accident investigations. There's a massive difference between how commercial aviation and private aviation works. One particular one is that a commercial aviation mechanic is never going to put their signature to release a plane if they're not assured of the work they did. Irrespective of who pressures them. There's a developing pattern of helicopter crashes being seen worldwide and some inferences are being made for the future to help mitigate them. Aviation and esp it's maintenance remains a great wonder. Can the same be said about the private sector? Finally, Massive credit to the Kenya Defence Forces esp the one captured for belting the Finale song so well.

This analysis of the Learjet 60 that crashed in Florida has reminded me of the ‘frequent’ helicopter crashes in Kenya. Private aviation remains strict but let’s admit it, they may not be as vigorous as commercial aviation esp in terms of maintenance and regular pilot flying. The above looks simplistic because aviation remains highly regulated and safe but patterns are there between commercial and private accidents in aviation. It’s something that needs more samples and an honest debate from industry players. The Big Q I have is, after what age/flying cycle should a private jet be retired. Rem, they don’t, as explained above, undergo the daily rigours of commercial jets as also explained above (obvious reasons) nitter.cf/briefekonomi/status/21…

The engine failed on the taxiway, the flight was cancelled, and now there is a call to review the aircraft's airworthiness. These are two different things. The airworthiness certificate states that the aircraft met the standard when it was released. It does not promise that every component will work correctly at the next engine start. Parts wear and fail in service; that is why we have inspections and an MEL in the first place. When an engine fails at 10 knots on a taxiway, it is a good day compared to one that fails after rotation. Indigo Flight 6E 7423.

Everything he said sounds 100% true and yet I feel like I just got gaslit into building a plane on an island. 📹 Youmadeit3d

Footage of the final moments of the N722BD crash. 💔
A Learjet 60 crashed into a neighborhood in Palm Beach County on Sunday. All nine people on board died. What caught my attention was the icing report. The crew was at about 35,000 ft, with an outside air temperature around -47°C. They reported light, clear ice, moderate turbulence and precipitation, then asked to climb. At that altitude, you might think: how can there even be icing? But ice doesn’t need to form the way we imagine it on a cold windshield. Supercooled water droplets and ice crystals can behave very differently at high altitude. We don't know yet what caused this aircraft to enter that dive.

Standards are important, but remember that value should go both ways. Nobody wants to feel like they're the only one bringing something to the table.
Now you see the reason why woman no fit do shakara for me. You have to bring more value to my life 🥴

Sending an engineer along on a flight looks like a wasted seat. Until the aircraft goes AOG at an outstation and you find out what that seat was worth.
