Unsurprisingly, if you're the creator of Dragon Quest, AI is a great tool for churning out content that makes headlines. But for most people? Good luck. AI wasn't built for you. It's being pushed by those at the top to cut costs, boost profits and pull the ladder up behind them.
Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has released a new game, which he claims was made in “just about 30 minutes,” with generative AI. vgc.news/news/the-lastest-ga…

Seeing where so many creative tools (Rive, Adobe, etc) have landed with their AI adoption, I dread to think what the Game UI Database could have become in the hands of someone with no love for the creative process. The GUIDB will always champion humans, no matter what. Screw AI!

As much as I appreciate the new followers from this post, if you're an AI tech bro or a degenerative slopmuncher, please kindly learn to read, remove yourself from my follower list and crawl back into whatever hole you came from. kthx
Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working. I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

"We looked into your content and feel that you and your audience might enjoy our product" ...did he just call us stupid?

Denshattack! has been added to the Game UI Database! Another game in the vein of Persona, where the UI really elevates the experience, giving it a distinctive visual identity of its own. Huge props to the designer, Chloe Hodgson! gameuidatabase.com/gameData.…

I'll never understand how a company can build a creative/design tool, only to then incorporate an AI workflow that gets it to do all of the work for you 🤦‍♂️ Why would they do this if they believed in their users or the UX of their product? So lame.
Wondering how to build full experiences like this with AI agents and the Rive CLI? It’s as simple as pointing your agent to the Rive website and telling it to install the Rive CLI. Then tell it to build something with it and use the CLI preview feature for you to test and for it to inspect and validate as it builds. No sign-in, no account required to get started. The CLI uses our new text-based markup language, so agents can write Rive files directly. That makes Rive the best format for agents to build interactive experiences that run natively on web, mobile, consoles (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox), desktop, smart TVs, vehicles, and any custom hardware.

Since @NasNakarus shared his game concept last month, Steam has been flooded with vibe-coded slop clones. This is what "democratising creativity" actually looks like. Even with AI on your side, your ideas are utterly worthless as long as they can be copied faster, cheaper and at scale. Generative AI was designed for plagiarism, NOT creativity.

Bored of the slopgobblers in my replies, so closing comments. If you have any counterpoints to make, I can guarantee someone else has already covered them below, which I've responded to. Go read. Or ask Claude to read it for you, idk.

Normalize laughing at people like this.
Normalize calling AI artists, artists. Normalize calling AI content, content. Normalize calling AI music, music. Normalize calling AI films, films. Normalize calling AI photography, photography. Normalize calling AI design, design. Normalize calling AI-built apps, apps. Normalize calling AI-assisted writing, writing… It’s time we stop treating AI-assisted creation like it belongs in a separate category forever.

Resident Evil was fantastic. It does a shockingly good job of bringing the vibe of the games to film, from the humour to the camera angles, to the light puzzles and even the way it makes you keep track of how much ammo he's carrying. It's so well done. Hope we get a sequel!

EVERY freaking time. Announce they're using AI, ignore the backlash, keep forcing it into everything, then when it becomes a PR problem: “omg sorry, we had no idea you’d hate the thing you’ve been explicitly telling us you hate for months! Pwease don't boycott us 🥺"

I'm pleased to announce that around 200 pages' worth of UI/UX tutorial resources are coming to the Game UI Database for FREE via a brand new blog. No ads. No paywalls. No email signups. Here's a preview of the first piece dropping next week, all about crafting cross-platform control schemes and layouts! Oh, and I think it goes without saying, but this is an AI-free zone.

The creative community is welcoming and collaborative, we’ve never been interested in “wiping the floor” with those who struggle with it. We WANT others to create, which is why we mentor, give talks and lectures, portfolio reviews etc. We’d love more people to create, we just don’t want them stealing from others in the process.
I don’t think this is as much of a black pill as people think. Look how much better the results are when the input/prompt is based off of someone with incredible skill in that arena. It’s a shame that the creative world has disavowed AI for the most part because they’d wipe the floor with every non-trad-creative using it. It’s similar to how the people getting the best outcomes out of vibecoding all seem to be well rounded engineers or good systems thinkers at the very least. People with a base level of skill are going to be able to access higher level results with way less effort than those without.

Back in 1996, I called the Nintendo Hotline to ask how to get to the Lost World in Donkey Kong Country 3. …then I took credit for their advice by submitting it to CVG Magazine, who printed it the following month. My secret shame 😭
