Dear @TiborPNagyJr, can we talk about the killings of Kagame of which you are aware of! You were U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs under the first Trump administration when you made this comment about Kizito's killing, "I note with concern the death of Kizito Mihigo while in custody and references to suicide before an inquiry or autopsy was initiated by Rwandan authority." At the time, you called for a full investigation into the circumstances of the death! After Mihigo’s 2020 death, we keep reading in international news how critics of Rwanda’s government have died under suspicious circumstances while Rwanda gives excuses with official accounts of accidents, suicide, or poisoning that rights groups have questioned. 🔾Rapper Jay Polly suddenly died in September 2021 in Mageragere prison under government custody 🔾Investigative journalist John Williams Ntwali @williams_ntwali was soon killed in January 2023 🔾Academic/YouTuber Aimable Karasira died in May 2026 on the day of his scheduled release from prison, and Rwanda gov cited an overdose of prescribed medication. The list goes on and on; with Rwanda, this list seems to be ENDLESS! Rwanda Authorities, of whom you have become a great advocate cite natural or accidental causes in each case, while international organizations have repeatedly highlighted the pattern and lack of transparent investigations. I see democide inside Rwanda but I do not see the government of DRC killing their own people, so how come you advocate for sanctions against DRC? These Rwandan high-profile cases are only the better-known examples; human rights groups have long documented a broader pattern of suspicious deaths, disappearances, and uninvestigated killings of lesser-known critics, journalists, opposition supporters, and ordinary citizens in Rwanda - countless innocent people killed... often attributed by authorities to accidents, suicide, or other non-political causes while families and observers allege foul play. It is disappointing to see you continue to defend the Kagame regime. I previously shared with you my book SOS Rwanda, written from the perspective of someone present during the war and genocide hoping that you will know the Truth. I gave you those materials along with Judi Rever’s In Praise of Blood book. Both works document the RPF’s highly disciplined and systematic mass killings in Rwanda and the DRC, as well as the regime’s organized mafia networks involved in resource extraction in Congo. Dear @TiborPNagyJr You have been provided with detailed accounts of these events, yet you have chosen to support those in power rather than the victims. I remain concerned of the day you will stand before the Great Judge, whose throne is Righteousness and Justice. I can only pray for you and I have! "The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.(Proverbs 12:13-14)

This vile “attack in a dark alley” comment trivializes the FDLR’s murderous actions, as well as the Rwandan and Congolese lives endangered by the genocidal FDLR. This is how lightly the DRC government treats its own financing and support of the militia, instead of honouring its commitment in the Washington Accords to neutralize the FDLR. DRC officials touring the world to sanitize the FDLR and blame Rwanda will not deliver peace.

Mr. Nagy, a threat, perceived or real, is not equivalent to thousands killed and millions displaced. When you served in government, would you have equated fear of an attack in a dark alley with decades of violence, rape and forced displacement? “Sanction both sides” erases that distinction—and suggests Congolese lives count for less. They do not.
If the US wants to be objective in helping end the long running Rwanda/DRC face-off in Eastern Congo, then sanctioning only one side will not help. The Tshisekedi Govt has its own proxies that threaten Rwanda, so why not sanction all the troublemakers? home.treasury.gov/news/press
