Some religious leaders, politicians, social media influencers, and traditional rulers have succeeded in deeply polarizing Nigerian society. Sadly, terrorists and opportunistic politicians are among the biggest beneficiaries of these divisions.

Listening to and watching @adeyanjudeji on @channelstv giving an update on the deaths of miners in Niger is both disturbing and crucial. Including Deji and his acceptance onto the committee to investigate this horrendous incident has given Nigerians the opportunity to be part of the investigation.
14 minors between the ages of 9 and 15 dying is unconscionable. People were crammed into a tiny cell with no adequate ventilation; detainees drank their urine and had to climb on each other to put their noses and mouths through the tiny opening for air. The NSCDC officials’ insistence on not opening the cell despite knowing people were dying, and the deliberate tampering with evidence by cleaning the cell, all point to a systemic problem in Nigeria.
The NSCDC’s false claim of a disease outbreak as the cause of death is also shocking.
We owe @adeyanjudeji thanks for his service on this committee.
Now, we must put pressure to ensure the committee’s recommendations are fully implemented.
Some individuals are using social media to promote violent extremism and incite hostility between members of different Islamic sects in northern Nigeria, particularly Darika and Izala.
Disturbingly, many of those spreading this rhetoric are influential figures,…
including journalists, civil society actors, and academics with large social media followings.
They deliberately communicate in Hausa, seemingly to escape wider scrutiny. If the same inflammatory statements were posted in English,

Ansaru claims responsibility for the assassination of popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, accusing him of being an infidel.
In an audio recording confirming responsibility for the killing, Ansaru said it carried out the attack at around 8:30 pm. While the speaker mentioned 'Talata' (Tuesday) as the day the attack took place, which could have been a mistake, the incident actually happened yesterday, Monday.
Ansaru accused Masussuka of being anti-Islam. It did not mention any specific offence he had committed, though it suggested that the cleric's promotion of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence may have contributed to his killing.
The assassination adds to a series of security incidents in northwest Nigeria, as insecurity worsens ahead of next year's elections.
The fact that Ansaru has claimed responsibility provides authorities with an opportunity to concentrate their efforts on the group and unravel the identities of those directly behind the attack. This is even more important given that the group also threatened those it described as enemies of Islam.
In addition to Zaria, Kaduna, Kano and Abuja, Katsina has also been a prominent base for Ansaru over the years.

They called him an infidel who's criticizing Hadiths and trying to unite Muslims and Christians. They warned that they would target others on that path. The most worrying concern is that of breaking territorial bounds, that is, Ansaru’s ability to project capability beyond its...

The Ansaru terrorists, active in the Borgu-Kainji area along Nigeria's western borderlands and with key leaders in custody, have claimed responsibility for the assassination Monday night of Yahaya Masusuka, a Muslim cleric in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria.
#Ansaru terrorists have released a video claiming responsibility for the assassination of Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka in Katsina, branding him an infidel for questioning Hadiths & promoting Muslim-Christian unity. They threaten more killings.
Why do the assassinations of prominent Islamic scholars in Northern Nigeria seem to occur during election years or shortly before elections?
Terrorists have killed a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, and his friend at his residence in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
The attack occurred around 9 p.m., killing people became a normal routine in the north and no end of sight in the region.
The best course of action for #JIBWIS is to identify everyone involved in the video, hold a press conference to publicly dissociate itself from their actions, and hand those responsible over to security agencies for investigation.

Still, I’d like to see more people of African descent tackle economics and economic development topics. There are so few of us writing, publishing, analyzing, etc.
and it’s not easy
Some spaces are shrinking and new ones are opening
The glass is at once half full and empty
When I firstly tweeted about this attack, someone dm me with insult and threatening message. You can now argue with your ancestors in APC
Gunmen ambushed a convoy of traders travelling to a market under military escort and killed at least 20 people in Nigeria's northwestern Zamfara state, a witness and a military source said on Monday. reuters.com/world/africa/gun…
This is how terrorism has devastated once-thriving agricultural communities in northwestern Nigeria.
People can no longer travel safely without military escorts, particularly in Zamfara , the home town of the Minister of Defence.
The North has been devastated by years of elite failure and neglect.
Communities have been left impoverished & vulnerable, while terrorists continue to kill & displace innocent people.
The greatest victims are the poor, who are left to suffer the consequences of a broken system

I will never stop reminding northerners that there is no regular bloodshed in any part of Southern Nigeria. But there is
Bloodshed in Zamfara
Bloodshed in Kebbi
Bloodshed in Katsina
Bloodshed in Sokoto
Bloodshed in Kaduna
Bloodshed in Borno
Bloodshed in Kwara
Bloodshed in Plateau
Northerners are massacred on daily basis under Tinubu. His catastrophic failure in the North is why he needs massive northern PR. 2027 is a choice between our security or terrorism.
