It was a true homecoming to remember as I joined leaders, family, friends, and the vibrant community of Uyoma, Rarieda Sub‑County in Siaya County to celebrate Hon. Lady Justice @bellindaakello on her well‑deserved appointment as a Judge of the Environment and Land Court (ELC).
Before her elevation, Hon. Lady Justice Bellinda served with distinction as our Deputy Director of Legal and Dispute Resolution at the @NLC_Kenya . In that role, she was diligent, determined, and hardworking; qualities that left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her.
I extend my deepest gratitude to H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto for appointing such a deserving candidate to the ELC bench. Hon. Bellinda’s rise is a shining testament to the exceptional talent nurtured within the National Land Commission, and we couldn’t be prouder of the superb professionals walking our corridors.
As Hon. Lady Justice Bellinda Akello takes her seat on the bench, I wish her nothing but the best. I am fully confident that she will deliver fair, decisive, timely, and crucial judgments on land matters, upholding justice and serving the people with the same excellence she has consistently shown.
As a symbolic act of our shared commitment to environmental stewardship, we planted trees as a testament to our resolve to safeguard the environment.
The ceremony was graced by: PS Dr. @Eng_F_Ngeno (State Department for Environment and Climate Change), PS Dr. Ouma Oluga (Medical Services); Members of Parliament @SamuelAtandi (Alego Usonga), Hon. Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Hon. Atiende Omollo (Rarieda); @NemaKenya DG Dr. Mamo B. Mamo; @mbarak_husna (Land Governance Programme Manager and Gender Focal Point at FAO); and @NelsonHavi (Former LSK President and Senior Counsel).
I was also accompanied by a stellar team of National Land Commission management: CPA Bernard Cherutich (Director, Finance and Corporate Planning), CHRP Ben Bett (Director, Human Resource Management), Brian Ikol (Director, Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution), CPA Peter Ochuodho (Head, Internal Audit and Risk Management), Violet Odawa- NLC County Coordinator Homa Bay County and and David Kipchoge - NLC County Coordinator Siaya County.

"Although land is static, and competing interests often pit environment against development, Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya elevates sustainable development as a binding national value. Accordingly, the Environment and Land Court (ELC), tasked with intergenerational change, reconciles these tensions to ensure that the needs of present and future generations are met." Hon. Justice Chacha Mwita, JA, during the induction of the Environment and Land Court Judges.
