Mass circumcision ceremony leaves 43 boys dead and dozens more mutilated in South Africa. What happened to these boys is disgusting. They were taken from their families, covered in clay, and handed to men who cut them with old spears, blunt scissors and dirty rusty razor blades. Some were operated on with no anaesthetic. Some were told not to drink water. Wounds rotted. Flesh died. Boys lost their penises. Boys died of sepsis, gangrene and thirst. This is not a sacred secret. It is butchery dressed up as manhood. Illegal initiation schools keep doing it. Unskilled operators keep doing it. Families keep being told their sons will come home as men. Forty-three of them came home in coffins this winter in South Africa. Dozens more were mutilated. In 2024 it was 93 dead and 11 amputations. A healthy boy walks into the bush. A corpse, or a child with his body destroyed, is what some parents get back. Call it culture if you want. What was done to these boys was barbaric. It should never have been allowed to happen again.
