On October 7th, Hamas terrorists stormed Eli Sharabi’s home in Kibbutz Be’eri, murdered his wife and two daughters, and dragged him into Gaza. He spent 491 days in a tunnel. Now, for the first time since that morning, @EliSharabi7 is seeing in detail what happened. The stories of October 7, the stories of his captivity, and a nation united fighting for his safe return.
Eli said, “To understand someone fighting for you and they doesn’t know you, that’s amazing.”
I was honored to walk with him through “We Shall Rise,” an immersive exhibition on the rooftop of Azrieli in Tel Aviv. Ziv Koren has been photographing every single day since the morning of October 7. Noam Horev put it into words. Together they built something that is not about what was taken from us, but about the fact that we are still here. Still breathing. Still living.
Thank you Eli for your courage, and for sharing this with me.
We Shall Rise runs through October 30. If you’re in Israel, you have to go.
את השבוע האחרון העברתי בברזיל המדהימה- הוזמנתי להרצות בקהילה היהודית של סאו פאולו. שמחתי להכיר את הנוכחים בקהל, תודה לכל מי שהגיע. @StandWithUs

Hamas captivity survivors Alon Ohel, Eli Sharabi and Eliya Cohen stand beside Ziv Abud on her and Eliya’s wedding night.
This photo is almost too powerful for words. All three men were abducted by Hamas into Gaza on October 7, while Ziv survived the Nova massacre and fought tirelessly for Eliya’s return from captivity . Now they are here together, free and smiling, celebrating a love that survived the unimaginable.
Hamas dragged them into darkness, but it could not prevent this moment from happening .

It was an honor to interview @EliSharabi7 last night. Eli survived an unimaginable 491 days of brutal captivity in the tunnels of Gaza. His strength, desire to live, compassion and connection to his “why” are beyond remarkable. If you haven’t read his memoir, Hostage, do so now, and read about what it means to survive and push through any situation this you may find yourself in.

An incredibly moving interview with a remarkable man.
"It was like a five-kilo hammer on my head."

He was a Hostage. He was also a Father.
Hamas made him the first - and stole the second.
When the plight of those rotting in terror tunnels doesn’t make you feel physically ill… think of him.
It should break you. The mere thought.
Give them back - NOW.
