Just spoke with a PWHL spokesperson to clarify the new roster and salary details.
First, the CBA has not been amended. The changes are outlined in a letter of understanding between the two parties.
The average salary requirement, which now applies to 24 players, started at $55,000 in the inaugural season and increases by 3% annually, bringing it to $60,100 for 2026-27.
Players whose salaries fall below the new minimum will receive an increase to meet it. However, any previous gap above the minimum will not automatically be preserved. For example, a player earning $2,000 above the old minimum would move to the new minimum, rather than receive $2,000 above it.
Each player can sign a maximum of two One-Game SPAs per season. These agreements do not replace 10-day contracts, and the language governing those contracts remains in the CBA.

BREAKING:
Per @IanKennedyCK, the PWHL is set to increase league minimum salaries beyond the 3% outlined in the CBA, they'll increase roster sizes this season, and are set to do away with reserves.

There was no clarification on if league average would increase. Most teams had a lot of available money this offseason due to player dispersal in free agency. But it will just bring more toward the middle as is.
This is interesting, but from my understanding, increasing the minimum salary doesn't actually mean players make more money as a group. The PWHL uses an "average" salary structure: the average of each team's contracts must be within 10% of $60,100 for the 2026-27 season.

PWHL San Jose forward Sloane Matthews had a tough senior team debut. Lining up as the USA's extra forward, she missed a PK coverage assignment that directly led to Canada's first goal (video in next tweet). Here's part of what head coach John Wroblewski said after the game:
Unsurprisingly, Kristin O’Neill is on Canada’s top penalty killing unit. The PWHL San Jose forward scored a shorthanded goal in the gold medal game at the Olympics last winter.

No Rory Guilday for team USA, but Laila Edwards and Sloane Matthews are suiting up tonight in Windsor.
International road trip! I’ll have live coverage of tonight’s pre-worlds exhibition game between the US and Canada which could feature up to four PWHL San Jose players. Stay tuned for updates
