Will miss Westminster, my fab colleagues and spelling defence with a c!
New from Bloomberg Geoeconomics: Renewed strikes on Iran likely after the midterms regardless of who controls Congress, allowing time for a US military buildup and more oil to move out of the Strait.

New: The UK is accelerating defense spending by reaching 3% of economic output by 2030
The target had previously been by 2034 - a pledge Chancellor John Healey resigned over as defense secretary. He will set out the funding details next year.

I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine.
A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making.
Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally.
I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history.

(Bloomberg) -- Republican members of Congress blasted President Donald Trump’s decision to waive a tariff law passed last month to restrict Russian energy exports, arguing that the move will help Moscow wage its war on Ukraine.
Restrictions on Ukraine’s military use of SpaceX’s Starlink system appear to be deliberate and not the result of any technical problems, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Starlink restrictions came just weeks after Ukraine relied on it for a surprising + successful counter-offensive to retake critical territory
Our look at why Starlink is vital not just to Ukraine’s air defense but also to pushing back Russian forces:

BREAKING! A bipartisan group of 9 senators is demanding a Pentagon watchdog probe into reported Starlink and intelligence-sharing disruptions in Ukraine, citing risks to U.S. personnel during Russian air raids and calling for answers on whether U.S. officials had prior knowledge
Streeting says he + Hegseth didn’t discuss why Starlink was disrupted in Ukraine but that they briefly reflected + welcomed its restoration
When asked by @marthamaccallum if the Pentagon restricted Starshield, Streeting said “that’s not my understanding”
It comes as a senior US official tells @KateSullivanDC that President Trump didn’t order any limitations on Ukraine’s access to Starshield
How and why this critical capability was interrupted remains a mystery
