Watching @BBCBreakfast discuss the wonderful Bill Turnbull and it reminded me of this work⬇️. I'm certain Bill's bravery in sharing his diagnosis will be felt by many.

Great synthesis of a suite of papers I was involved in, examining personal deprivation vs place deprivation - increasingly important as control is devolved out to ICBs and local health & care decisions are made based on geographic measures of deprivation
Our recent @ESRC funded project used @ONS Longitudinal Study data to understand the impact of the 'person' or the 'place' on measures of deprivation. As part of their #LinkingOurLives blog the team at @ucl have written a post - check it out here 👇

📰New paper! We investigated if measured inequalities in #cancer survival differ when using 'person'-based compared with 'place'-based measures of deprivation for three socioeconomic dimensions: income, deprivation and occupation. Check out the results: 👇bmjopen.bmj.com/content/12/6…
Super proud to have enabled and contributed to this world-leading research

"The reduction in cervical cancer and CIN3 in young women after the introduction of an HPV immunisation programme was greatest in the cohorts offered the vaccine at age 12–13 years among whom the uptake was greatest." bit.ly/3O0DOlH #HPV #Pediatrics #HPVvaccination
An excellent paper from @SamMerriel and co adding to the body of evidence scrutinising the effectiveness of cancer awareness campaigns, a huge amount of information condensed into a very accessible narrative
Want to know what impact the 4th @BeClearonCancer #BloodinPee campaign had on #gp presentations, #Cancer referrals, and #diagnoses?

From little acorns… I first presented our Routes work internationally in 2013, people were interested but had nothing to compare to, was the EP phenomena unique to England? Thanks to many researchers we now know, & can use this learning to improve cancer outcomes globally
1/12 With colleagues in 14 jurisdictions in 6 countries we have just published a study on the predictors and consequences of cancer diagnosis within 30 days after an emergency hospital admission (=emergency presentation) in @TheLancetOncol thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/… A🧵:
An absolutely fascinating article about the link between asthma and thunderstorms

This is a nice blog from Jo Mulligan at the OSR, it's good to see some reflection and lessons learned being applied to our collaborative COVID-19 work
What can be done to maintain public confidence in statistics produced by models and algorithms?
Methods expert, Jo Mulligan gives an insight into the lessons learned from the QCovid risk calculator:

Synthetic and simulated data - really good to see the momentum growing in this space
Interesting @adr_uk article, examining potential benefits of synthetic data from a researcher perspective. We have a new #usemydata Position Statement, with a simple explanation of synthetic data, & how it can play a part in improving research efficiency - bit.ly/3wqaDDi
I can vouch for this being a rewarding and challenging role, play a part in improving cancer and other disease outcomes through data and analysis, we need you!
Come work with me, and many other fab people, to shape the use of cancer, rare diseases and congenital anomaly data analysis in England. Exciting times. Lots of roles out. This one is particularly meaty :-) #epitwitter jobs.digital.nhs.uk/vacancie…
This is an excellent blog from Peter Sasieni and well worth a read for a general understanding of the factors that are taken into consideration with national screening programmes, as well as the current debate in Wales
I know many people are concerned about the cervical screening programme in Wales increasing the interval between negative tests from 3 to 5 years. It is too complicated to discuss on Twitter. So I have written a blog blogs.kcl.ac.uk/cancerpreven…

Ground-breaking research from @CancerPrev_KCL in collaboration with #NCRAS @NHSDigital showing that the HPV vaccination prevents cancer. Findings are important in encouraging vaccine take up and demonstrating the power of patient data & how it can be used safely #datasaveslives
NEW—Cervical cancer rates 87% lower in women offered vaccination against human papillomavirus (#HPV) between ages 12-13 than in previous generations, English study confirms.

Listening to @EllissBrookes speaking to @raziaiqbal about this exciting development. The human papillomavirus, or HPV, vaccine is cutting cases of cervical cancer by nearly 90%, the first real-world data shows.
@CR_UK described the findings as "historic"

Authors wrote & tested analysis code on simulated data consisting of artificial cancer records, the code was sent to #NCRAS for running on the real data & results shared. Patient data were not shared outside of NCRAS, patient confidentiality was maintained hubs.li/H0-BBKj0
