My 1st first-author paper is officially published in #biochemj ! 🤩
doi.org/10.1042/BCJ20230450
In this work, we reveal a novel ATP synthase dimer structure in C. elegans, and look at the consequence of dimer angle on mitochondrial morphology using cryo-ET.

It was a pleasure to share my research with some Year 10 students, and show them what C. elegans look like under the microscope!
Last week we welcomed Year 10 students from Thomas Hall School in Exeter to the LSI for a tour around the labs and a talk about working as a scientist. @LSI_Exeter @uniofexeHLS @Avantihall1
I had the opportunity to attend a fantastic workshop on career development for young scientists run by hpf consulting a few weeks back.
A great chance to practise interview technique, elevator pitches, and unpack core values to align to potential job roles.
Thoroughly enjoyed attending SWSBC earlier this week, where I excitingly won the prize for best talk (!!)
It was great meeting others in the structural biology field from the south west 👩🔬
Congratulations to all the prize winners for talks and posters at SWSBC and a big thanks to @DougInstruments for kindly sponsoring the prizes 💎 @unisouthampton @sotonbiosci @DiamondLightSou @ccp4_mx

Our MitoLuc methods paper is now out in press! 🥳
Thanks to co-authors @JamesLorriman @MitoPereira_GC @IanofBristol and @JMolBiol for a smooth publication process!
*MitoLuc*
@hopeneeds (@LabCollinson @BristolBiochem) figured out how to measure mitochondrial protein import within intact cells; with @JamesLorriman @MitoPereira_GC and Jeremy Henley. Published in the original and best @JMolBiol

Productive few days at thesis bootcamp embarking on my PhD thesis journey.😌📚💻 Picked up some great tools to help me with my writing!
Just coming to the end of our 3 day Thesis Boot Camp with @DrPetaFreestone
Some much needed protected time away from distractions @EngineersHouse
So impressed with how super-focused everyone has been!

Did you know... mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes can be organised into #supercomplexes⁉️
@EmmaBuzzard👩🔬 of @LSI_Exeter uses electron microscopy🔬 to investigate the link between loss of supercomplex stability and ageing👵in nematodes 🪱

Now peer-reviewed and accepted in @J_Cell_Sci: we show that loss of NDUF-11 affects Complex I and its #supercomplexes and induces profound alterations in #mitochondria ultrastructure in worms.
Amazing #CryoEM work by @EmmaBuzzard and @the_gold_lab!

Very excited (but mostly relieved) to have completed my first mito prep in Exeter today👩🔬. I've spent several months setting everything up here for growing C.elegans and isolating their mitochondria!🪱🧪
