It's either this, or they use a hard plastic - it snaps off and a child chokes on it. Also, for collectors, you won't find as many second hand ones with broken smokestacks. Good move by Mattel.

Yea cause as we all know, every Thomas toy with a tall funnel is fine. Bro this isn’t just a Mattel thing, this happens with offer toy lines like Bandai and Nakayoshi. What else are they supposed to do? The character has a tall funnel and would look off with a short one.
