Halloween means it’s time for a viewing of Tech Building Terror!!! This (fictional) trailer was created by a fun-loving group of Skywalker Sound artists for a Lucasfilm company meeting in the early 1990s. It showcases our Technical Building home at Skywalker Ranch when it was only a few years old and still dominated by traditional, photochemical tools. But Skysound always has one foot in the future, and this trailer was no different, being cut on a state-of-the-art EditDroid!
The inclusion of Yoda's theme is one more reason John Williams is a genius. I don't know if GenX fully appreciates how much better he made the films we watched growing up.

In December 2021, writer-director Ed Zwick (Thirtysomething, The Last Samurai, Glory, Legends of the Fall, Courage Under Fire) shared a series of tweets about the craft of screenwriting. I saved that thread at Go Into The Story. gointothestory.blcklst.com/t… #screenwriting
There's a post making the rounds on X about editing - specifically AI editing. As an editor, I think humans should do the creative editing. Handing some things off to AI is fine - like this: had a shot where the corner of the product box was bad. AI fixed it, no reshoot needed.
Dear @Criterion - future release recommendations:
Bad News Bears (original version)
Eight Men Out
Avalon (from Barry Lenvinson)
Diner from him as well.
In case you're looking for 2027 ideas...there you go.
Signed,
Long time fan of you all and those films
One thing I notice w/more novice directors when editing for them - their attention to continuity. Don't get me wrong - I think it's important at times, but I really have let go of little things perfectly matching if the performance is there. But I rarely convince the director.

Ben Affleck on Digger
like high school bullying … you see it now with Digger a pretty ambitious interesting movie made by interesting people who have talent … if you punish movies that take risks … you’re gonna get a bunch of homogenized movies
Loved CINEFX - the best magazine about movies and VFX ever. I miss reading it.
If you're a fan of #VFX and want to know about the making of some of your favorite sci-fi & fantasy films check out the now out-of-print CINEFEX back issues in an on-going online archive by publisher Don Shay. This was by far the most in-depth & well-respected publication on the subject of special effects in film. One PDF at the bottom of this search page has ALL the issues combined. Trust me when I say this is a TREASURE TROVE of vfx how-to's, interviews & lore--check them out, it's all FREE. archive.org/search?query=sub…
I remember when movie theaters had 2 (or more) working snack bars. The theater near our house still has a second one there, but they never use it...kinda sad. Back in the day, both were packed. A reminder of a once glorious past.
The #Postseason is here, and we’re celebrating by giving away an official 2026 World Series baseball ⚾️

Film editing rule I live by that has nothing to do with keyboard shortcuts, technology, plugins, or technical skill.
Hey @axs - your ticket upgrade system sounds great, but it isn't working at all for me on my system I try.
.@ryangrim Your open today on Breaking Points was hilarious. You and @emilyjashinsky are my favorite part of Wednesday.
