It should also be noted, @charlie_savage, @DevlinBarrett, @GrahamDavidA, that Eric Schmitt also was not telling the truth when he defended his “questions” for Jack Smith by saying that the Hawks were the only NBA team playing that night.

This is also a lie, there were 6 NBA games that day, it is easy to look up

Schmitt: Who knew jack Smith was a Caitlin Clark fan? We had information he was at a basketball game. There was only one NBA game that night which is why I asked him if he was in Atlanta. He answered the question. That's what these hearings are for. You ask questions, you get answers. Smith has perjured himself before, but he says he's at the game. Maybe he's a Caitlin Clark fan. We'll accept that.

There was, in fact, a UMD v Iowa game on Feb 3, 2024. And I remember only because we had to watch Caitlin Clark do this all night against our Terps

🤡 Eric Schmitt beclowns himself during Jack Smith hearing 🤡
Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atlanta to go to a Hawks game and collude with Fani Willis, and briefly displayed his "evidence" on a poster board before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- Schmitt's facts were totally wrong. Smith was actually in Maryland at a Hawkeyes (not a Hawks) game and never met Willis. As Klobuchar told him, "You have your teams wrong."
Here's the whole deeply embarrassing sequence:

We need more of this from news organizations. It’s a way of helping reporters stay above the fray while still defending yourself.

This misleading statement is nothing more than a disingenuous attempt to seek attention and stoke outrage by misrepresenting The New York Times's journalism covering the anniversary and commemoration of the Sept. 11 attacks. In the 25 years since that day, we have led the way on reporting on the event, its human toll, and resulting societal shifts. Audiences can see for themselves The Times's coverage now, which features a deep and diverse set of journalism reflecting on a globally significant event.
