No-trade and no-move clauses are not the industry standard in North American sports. NHL contracts represent the outlier. Approximate number of no-trades/no-moves: NFL: 8 NBA: 2 MLB: 35 NHL: 245

The NHL's 50/50 revenue split includes media rights. Rogers commits $11B for Canadian NHL rights, league revenue rises, and player compensation rises with it. Broadcasters and teams then have to recovers those costs. That's where fans come in.

Same goes with Rogers. They overpay for NHL rights and now fans are expected to foot the bill.

Teams keep jacking up prices, then wonder why fans aren’t showing up. You can’t price people out of the building and expect full arenas. There's a limit.

It’s unfair to criticize the Canadiens for failing to land a 2C. It wasn’t for lack of effort. Plenty of other teams were looking for a 2C and came up empty. Sometimes the market simply doesn’t cooperate. And the last thing the Canadiens want to do is force a deal.

Canadiens went from needing a 2C to now needing a 1C. No need to panic.

The Canadiens know how to take a lead, but they just don't know how to hold a lead. And that's really the most important part of taking a lead: the holding.

Don Fehr told NHL players back in 2012 if they wanted to get rid of the salary cap, they should expect to miss at least one season. Baseball players and owners should take note.

If MLB wants a hard cap, it needs to be prepared to miss an entire season.

Alex Texier is turning out to be a great acquisition by the Habs. High skill, high compete, protects the puck well and has some mean to his game.

That's right Ricky. Hope your remote control front door still works.

Understood (and I get the response). I guess I would say that a salary cap isn’t about punishing the Dodgers for signing stars; it’s about preventing a system where the wealthiest teams have a structural advantage in acquiring and retaining talent.

Then they would go to another team in a sexier market. What Kelly said goes against the completely bullshit argument the owners are making about competitive balance. Dodgers signing 4 big names in 6 years is not a reason for a cap, this is a greed play by the owners.

If I had a Charlie Sheen winner of the week on Offside, Devin Cooley would be it this week.

Loving Zachary Bolduc. Far more physical and engaged. No longer Brian Savage.

Thanks. Nice ceiling comparison: David Reinbacher has the potential to become a Jaccob Slavin. Yes I know optimistic. Check back in in 300 games for that one.

I'm hoping he can be a Hampus Lindholm or Damon Severson calibre player.

David Reinbacher is going to be a good one. Takes time. Give it 200 games.

A salary cap, however, would prevent the Dodgers from simply signing multiple star players, as there would not be enough cap space to accommodate them all.
Joe Kelly just dropped an anti-cap truth bomb: Even if a salary cap meant every team could only offer Shohei Ohtani $10M, he’d still pick the Dodgers over Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, or Minnesota every single time. Why? Because nobody’s Googling “best places to visit in America” and landing on those cities. Destination + winning culture still wins when the max money is the same for everyone. A cap doesn’t create parity. It just makes the desirable spots even more dominant. The Dodgers would love a salary cap.

When Dach is on, the Canadiens are far too often getting hemmed in their zone. Don’t want to pile on but an adjustment needs to be made.
