On 25th October 1940, 86 years ago today, a German Messerschmitt Bf 109 ‘Red 13’ of Jagdgeschwader 77 crashed at Harvey's Cross Farm near North Saltdean after being attacked by Spitfires over London.
This is the sea and cliffs just south of the crash site, filmed today from Saltdean seafront.
The other crash — a Blenheim R3665 — actually went into the sea off Saltdean on 13 July 1940 after being dazzled by a searchlight.
