These brilliant submissions to our #SickArtistsClub show a real variety from the style and technique to the meaning behind each piece
All come together as part of an exhibition encouraging people with experiences of chronic illness or disability to join in creativity & community

ALT Artwork by Ashleigh Spice is a mixed media piece with photography and collage. It shows a self portrait in black and white photography which has been cut up and re-formed in a complex collages grid. Key features show the eyes and mouth repeated.

ALT Artwork by Sara Matharu - a character is drawn clutching their chest. On their chest are 5 gold stars and above the person is the title “getting all the gold stars”. Pointing in to the person are the annotated words: got dressed, porridge, washed up, went outside and spoke to a person. At the bottom there is the title ‘monster’ and to the right is a column of words describing feelings in list format eg. Unsure, jitter, weak and more.

“I have suffered from Endometriosis & Adenomyosis for a number of years.Relying on painkillers and a tough exterior to ‘continue as normal.’
My stomach is sore, always, and being claimed by the creeping tendrils of endometriosis but my heart is still free.”
We'd like to thank everyone who supported Lizzy’s exhibition. 💜

We owe the generous individuals in these organisations so much for the foothold they provided for the whole thing to happen.
The unexpected surge of support for the crowdfunder took us by surprise! To everyone who donated, from Margate to Spain to the USA-you made it happen 2/3 – at Margate, England
The physical exhibition may be over but #ThingsIHaveLearnedTheHardWay will continue online through the website for the next year. 1/3 – at Margate, England
Much of the work is already available to view online, and we plan to add more to make the website a fuller representation of the exhibition for those who were not able to make it in-person.
The BSL live event, One Day I Will Feel My Power, is available via @WysingArtsCentr 2/3 – at Margate, England
