On September 20, 2026, 18 defendants connected to the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were transported from Haiti to the United States. This operation demonstrates FBI Miami’s reach in our extraterritorial area of responsibility and strong partnership with domestic and international law enforcement agencies working together across borders to pursue justice.
On Thursday, September 17, 2026, the Miami Dade Sheriff’s Office hosted members of the Peruvian National Police—along with Special Agent Justin Teliford—in recognition of their invaluable support in two major cases handled by their Cold Case Unit. With the participation of the Peruvian National Police and Special Agent Teliford, assigned to the FBI’s Peru office, this visit exemplified the strong spirit of collaboration that drives our shared mission. We are deeply grateful for their partnership, which continues to strengthen international ties and supports our commitment to rebuilding public trust through unified, transparent investigative efforts.

FBI Miami extends its congratulations to Major Perry Beckford of the Hollywood Police Department, Lieutenant Roberto Valdes of the Miami Police Department, Lieutenant Martin Santiago of the Key Biscayne Police Department, Assistant Chief Seymour Council III of the Plantation Police Department, Major Jennie Hoff of the Coral Gables Police Department, and Lieutenant Colonel Christopher De Giovanni of the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Their accomplishment reflects a continued commitment to advancing knowledge and strengthening collaboration across our law enforcement community.

Today, corrections officers from the Federal Bureau of Prisons visited the Miami Field Office for an overview of the FBI’s investigative mission and the wide range of career opportunities within the Bureau. During the tour, officers learned that the FBI offers more than 400 diverse career paths across the organization.
From 2024 to 2025, violent crime dropped 9.7% nationwide—the largest year to year decrease since the FBI began tracking estimates in 1936—and the murder rate fell nearly 20%. Florida followed this trend with a nearly 5% reduction in violent crime and a 19% drop in murders. Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles briefed the FBI National Academy Alumni Florida Chapter on these historic declines, underscoring the Bureau’s continued focus on combating violent crime during a recent membership luncheon.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge Justin Fleck attended the Unified Coordination Rehearsal of Concept (ROC) Drill. The ROC was conducted to improve communication and coordination, engage executive leaders, validate local, state, and federal resources, and identify resource gaps in preparation for the G20 event. As part of this effort, we remain focused on rebuilding the public’s trust through transparency, preparedness, and strong interagency collaboration.
Today, in coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and our federal partners, we helped bring Alex Saab to justice. Saab pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering and agreed to forfeit $195 million in illicit proceeds. This result highlights the strength of our federal partnerships and reaffirms our commitment to pursuing criminal activity and holding offenders fully accountable.

CAPTURED: Another FBI Most Wanted Fraudster.
This is the 6th Most Wanted Fraudster captured since the creation of the new list three months ago – and yet another high value target captured overseas. Subjects captured so far have been responsible for a combined over $2 billion in fraud and were on the run for over 4,000 days collectively prior to arrest.
EMYLEE THAI – a subject on the run since 2022 – has been arrested after allegedly defrauding Medicare for over $100 million. She was arrested in Vietnam and was believed to be hiding there since at least 2023. FBI is actively working with our partners to secure her return to the United States.
Thai is charged with offenses including Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud and Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, among others.

ICE REMOVES CUBAN INTEL AGENT WHO FRAUDULENTLY OBTAINED LAWFUL STATUS
Cuban national and Guatemalan citizen Fernando Armando Valdes Perez infiltrated and reported on Cuban exile and dissident communities in Latin America and the United States as early as the mid-1990s.
Valdes gained the trust and confidence of late anti-Castro dissident Luis Posada Carriles and remained close to other well-known Cuban and Cuban American figures in South Florida until his July 10 arrest by ICE @EROMiami the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
He was deported Aug. 7 after investigators determined he concealed his position and affiliation with the regime when he fraudulently applied for and obtained lawful status.
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, military members, and ordinary Americans who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We remember each fallen Agent with a rose, a symbol of their sacrifice, courage, and enduring legacy. We will never forget.
