Neonatal infections remain a leading cause of preventable newborn deaths, especially in LMICs. Maternal immunisation can protect babies before birth and in their first months. A new joint editorial from FIGO, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and MIRNA set out how to the close the newborn protection gap: ✅ Strengthen pharmacovigilance ✅ Embed vaccination in antenatal care ✅ Back country-led delivery with obstetricians and midwives at the table Let’s turn maternal vaccine readiness into reach, so no woman or newborn is left unprotected. 📖 Read more and access the editorial: figo.org/news/closing-protec… #MaternalImmunisation #MaternalHealth #NewbornHealth #Midwives #MIRNA

A new cross-committee editorial in IJGO, prepared jointly by FIGO’s Division on Well Woman’s Health Care and its Committees on Infections During Pregnancy and Reproductive Age, argues that vaccination programmes must tackle the social norms, cultural expectations and practical barriers that shape uptake across a woman’s life. Titled "Vaccination Across the Life Course: Evidence, Opportunities and Action," the piece forms part of a FIGO Themed Collection and responds to two companion papers in the same issue: one setting out global recommendations for vaccinating women at key life stages and another focusing specifically on vaccination during pregnancy. 👉 Read more: ow.ly/unwl5101Puu #Vaccination #WomensHealth #MaternalHealth

Thinking of applying for the FIGO & Chien-Tien Hsu fellowship? Hear from previous fellows 🌍 Last year, Dr Quyen Nguyen, Dr Pedro Henrique Costa Matos Silva and Dr Afrin Shaffi spent their placement in the Gynaecologic Oncology Unit at Tygerberg Hospital, Stellenbosch University. They joined ward rounds, outpatient clinics, pathology reviews and colposcopy consultations, and observed advanced gynae-oncology surgery under senior consultants. What stayed with them most wasn’t just the clinical exposure. It was the new perspective, the confidence and the change in how they’ll practise. ✨ Want to experience it to? Here’s how to apply: 1️⃣ Submit an abstract to the XXVI FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics by 29 October 2026 (it must later be accepted) 2️⃣ Complete the online application form for the fellowship by 15 November 2026 ⏰ The abstract deadline is just days away! 👉 Read their stories and apply: ow.ly/pXv45101jVu #Fellowship #GynaecologicOncology #FIGO2026 #GlobalHealth

Given the disproportionate burden of gynecologic cancers in low- and middle-income countries, where younger women face increased risks of treatment-induced menopause and limited survivorship resources, this paper emphasises context-specific, resource-aware strategies to promote equitable care. By enhancing personalised and evidence-based decision-making, the paper aims to improve quality of life for women during menopause after cancer treatment, while ensuring safe, fair, and widely applicable survivorship approaches.
