Still remains one my favorite matches I have ever seen. I remember I was studying in the neighbouring country and I talked to my dad on the phone about the match on the weekend, and I traveled home that weekend and we watched the game together. I was a huge Arshavin fan before he even moved to Arsenal so idk I just had this gut feeling that this was gonna be a classic, and my word what a classic it was. AN OPEN LETTER TO BART VERBRUGGEN. Dear Bart, First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to formally apologise for my conduct towards you over the course of last season. Having had some time to reflect, reassess my behaviour and, quite frankly, look myself in the mirror, I have come to the conclusion that I may have been slightly unfair towards you. And by slightly unfair, I mean I spent approximately 38 Gameweeks publicly campaigning for your unemployment. I called you the biggest regret of my season. I questioned your abilities, your decision-making, your positioning, your very existence between those two goalposts. I repeatedly expressed my desire to never see you in a football shirt again, let alone in my Fantasy Premier League team. I said things, Bart. Things that cannot be unsaid. Things that, if taken out of the context of Fantasy Premier League frustration, could probably have landed me in a courtroom in The Hague. I made you the villain of my entire FPL season. Every goal conceded was somehow your fault. Every 1-pointer was a personal attack. Every clean sheet you failed to keep was another chapter in what I now recognise was a deeply one-sided and completely unnecessary public feud. And the worst part? I did all of this with the confidence of a man who had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. At the end of last season, I stood before my audience and solemnly declared that I would NEVER own you again. Not in this lifetime. Not in the next one. Not even if you were the last goalkeeper available in the entire Premier League. I was adamant. I was resolute. I was a man of principles. Then Gameweek 3 happened. I activated my Wildcard, looked at the goalkeeper options, and somehow, inexplicably, against every principle I had publicly established, I brought you back into my team. I don't know what possessed me. Perhaps it was desperation. Perhaps it was a moment of weakness. Perhaps it was divine intervention. Whatever it was, I would like to thank whoever made that decision because, quite frankly, they deserve a Nobel Prize. Since then, you've been keeping clean sheets like a man with a personal vendetta against my previous opinions. Week after week, you have quietly gone about your business, collecting points, making saves and reminding me that perhaps the problem was never you. And then today. Away at Manchester City. A fixture where most goalkeepers would be advised to bring a packed lunch, a sleeping bag and a written apology to their FPL managers. And what did you do? ELEVEN FUCKING POINTS. Bart, I hope you understand that this is not easy for me. I have built an entire personality around hating your FPL performances. My subscribers know you as the man who ruined my season. Your name has become synonymous with disappointment, frustration and financial mismanagement of my imaginary football team. And now you've gone and made me look like an absolute clown. I would also like to apologise to your family, your friends, your teammates, the Brighton coaching staff and anyone who had to listen to me repeatedly questioning your abilities. I sincerely hope that none of my videos ever reached your phone. If they did, please understand that I was going through a difficult period and was not operating with my full intellectual capacity. I cannot promise that I will never criticise you again. This is Fantasy Premier League, after all, and I'm still a deeply unstable individual who can turn against a goalkeeper after one misplaced pass. But I can promise to do better. I can promise to give credit where credit is due. And most importantly, I can promise to stop questioning your right to exist every time Brighton concede a goal. You have my respect. You have my admiration. And, most importantly, you have my FPL goalkeeper spot. Please accept this apology and know that I am willing to put the past behind us. Yours sincerely, A former hater.
