Jonathan Gannon isn't running his 3-high defense in Green Bay, but that doesn't mean he isn't using his Big Nickel package.
With three Safeties on the field, the Packers can mitigate most change-of-strength motions and be able to play a true field-boundary defense.
Against the Panthers, this philosophy showed up several times.
In both clips, the passing strength ends up at the boundary, which places Williams (33) as the "Nickel" and Bullard (7) as the Hash Safety.
The initial triangle alignment lets Green Bay hold their intentions as long as possible while still getting into their final coverage.
Gannon has leaned into closed-to-open rotations this year, more than any other team in the NFL.

This BBM is hilarious, but is also 100 points clear of 3rd and has a 177 in week 5 and a 140 this week. I think it might be my baby.
Lmao just lost 36% of entries to a freak Lamar thumb injury. Truly #cursed
I currently have a top 0.0048% score lineup in BBM. Doesn’t mean anything in week 7, but makes you feel good.
Just drafted a perfectly correlated BR from two of the best non-GB/DET games on the board. Looking forward to it finishing in the bottom 50%.
Highest scoring BBM. 130 clear with DET stack already done with bye week. Just need an RB2 when advance weeks come around.
33 and 7 need extensions asap
