Lisa Murkowski fired up her dormant personal X account for the first time since Thanksgiving 2022 to torch fellow Alaskan Mary Peltola over what she called a "pattern of lies and coverups" — the reported Democratic scheme to recruit a second "Dan Sullivan" candidate to confuse voters in Alaska's Senate race.
The New York Times reported that members of Peltola's team helped recruit a candidate sharing the incumbent Republican senator's name, potentially splitting the vote in a closely watched contest. Murkowski ripped the tactic as "ballot-stacking" that "should have no place in our electoral process," adding that recruiting candidates to manipulate the field and influence voting outcomes is "simply wrong."
The Times also reported the effort went beyond just the decoy Sullivan — Democratic operatives allegedly sought other candidates who could siphon votes from the Republican incumbent. Sen. Dan Sullivan himself told Fox News the scheme is what happens when a "far left" candidate "has got nothing to run on."
