When something uncomfortable happens in the UK, suddenly the language becomes “complex,” “sensitive,” “controversial” and “nuanced.”
But when it comes to issues involving terrorism or violence, the same BBC softens the language and burying the uncomfortable details.
The question is simple: why the different standards?
If the victim is underage, call it what it is.
If a crime is committed, report the crime.
If terrorism is involved, report the ideology, perpetrators and victims clearly.
Journalism isn’t supposed to protect reputations or narratives. It’s supposed to expose facts.

One pilot appears to have wanted to crash the plane killing everyone on board- thankfully the passengers, reserve crew and co-pilot managed to stop him.
