- localhost = host name for the loopback (usually 127.0.0.1)
- 127.0.0.1 = the loopback (can be configured)
- 0.0.0.0 = wildcard placeholder used by server applications
127.0.0.1 and localhost will only be accessible by programs on that same computer.
A server listening to 0.0.0.0 will redirect 127.0.0.1 to whatever that server app is hosting, while exposing itself to the local network. Other devices cannot point to 127.0.0.1, as that will just loop them back to themselves, they need to know the address of the host computer on the network to access it.
