MDP’s National Council needs young people who can represent their realities, members who will raise their voices and contribute to debates & policies that addresses both party and national level issues. With that said, I have decided to contest for the position of Youth Wing Gaumee Majilis Member. I would be deeply grateful for your support & respectfully ask for your vote. #VoteShiman

I was given a research report titled The 40 Percent Mandate: Why the Maldives’ Mandatory Foreign-Currency Conversion Rule Is Not Commercially Viable for the Resort Sector, prepared on the First Amendment to the Foreign Currency Act (1 September 2026). Among its findings, the report notes: Modelled on the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority’s 2024 average resort revenue of USD 28.8 million per year (≈ USD 2.4 million per month), retained dollars after a 40% conversion (≈ USD 1.44 million per month) fall short of documented monthly dollar obligations (≈ USD 1.71 million) by about USD 269,000. This represents a structural deficit of roughly 11% of gross revenue, before capital expenditure, insurance, or any owner return.

On the night of September 10, two vessels accidentally collided with the China‑Maldives Friendship Bridge. Our Chinese expert team helped to carry out a thorough inspection overnight. Fortunately, only minor scraping damage was observed, and no damage was found to the bridge's main structure. Data from the bridge's Beidou structural monitoring system confirms the bridge remained fully stable throughout the incident, with no displacement, deformation or abnormal stress changes recorded. Let us work together to safeguard the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and keep it safe and sound.
