Happy All Hallows’ Eve / Samhain from the Fearless Lab. 🎃
This year’s costume: Aging Genre Confused Rocker.
Slash’s top hat. A Compton cap. A Fender shirt. Apparently my musical influences have formed a committee and nobody has agreed on the Product Goal.
The costume is deliberate. The accidental ’80s time capsule around me is not. There are actual items from the 1980s hiding in this photo, and none were put there for the occasion. That’s just what happens when “I might use that again” survives four decades.
Have a proper look around the Fearless Lab and put your guesses in the comments.
The first FOUR people to correctly identify one of the real ’80s items get a BIG discount code for my next TWO workshops.
Get ALL the items AND their years correct, and you get a FREE workshop.
Before anyone comments “you”: behave.
No need to agree on a genre. Just bring your powers of observation.

A perfectly groomed backlog can still produce the wrong product.
CSPO isn't about making tickets prettier. It's about understanding people, testing assumptions, making tradeoffs, and deciding what deserves the team's attention.
The next Fearless CSPO starts Tuesday, November 3.
November 3, 4 & 5, starting at noon Eastern. Live online with Jimi Fearless. $399.

Translation: level up your leftovers. Giving them a French name also helps.
At Fearless Agility, we advocate 10% Time: deliberately making room for retrospective improvements, expanding skills and knowledge, and team building. Learning deserves space on the calendar.
Today, my 10% Time happened in the kitchen. Already-cooked acini di pepe and grilled chicken. Goat cheddar. Goat butter. Capers. An experiment in making a smooth cheese sauce and turning the contents of the fridge into something worth putting on a recipe card.
My learning: gentle heat and patience matter when bringing a cheese sauce together. Apparently, shouting “self-organise” at it is insufficient.
The recipe is on the card. What did you make room to learn this week?
REFLECT. FOCUS. COMMIT.

Month-end close + GAAP = Jameson Black for breakfast? Yes. Yes it does. (Don’t judge.) Irish coffee… hold the coffee.

Read your Sprint Goal out loud. If it sounds like a list of ticket titles, you probably don't have a Sprint Goal. The why should be visible before the what. Can your team explain the Sprint without reading the tickets?

I'm not saying I like working with machine intelligence coding agents for pair programming #XP better than human partners... but I'm not NOT saying it.
Pair programming. Plausible deniability. 😉

FEARLESS AFTER HOURS
My father is an Anglican priest. I am an atheist. I shared this imaginary conversation with my mother.
I can appreciate the wisdom in religious texts without believing their supernatural claims. And if I turn out to be wrong? I have a few questions.
Peter: Name?
Me: Jimi. And before we start, I have some questions about your admission criteria.
Peter: Naturally.
Me: I appreciated a lot of the wisdom. Love your neighbor. Feed people. Don’t let money own you. But I couldn’t honestly say I believed the supernatural claims.
Peter: Why not?
Me: The evidence didn’t convince me. Pretending otherwise would have been dishonest.
Peter: And what did you do with the parts that did convince you?
Me: Tried to put them into practice. Sometimes well. Sometimes spectacularly badly.
Peter: Tell me about the badly.
Me: How much time have you got?
Peter: You’re going to hate the answer.
Me: Eternity. Right. Look, I could be impatient. I hurt people. Sometimes I was so busy explaining why I was right that I missed what someone needed.
Peter: Did you ever recognize that?
Me: Eventually. Tried to repair things. Didn’t always manage it.
Peter: Neither did I.
Me: You denied knowing him three times.
Peter: Yes. It makes conducting these interviews a delicate business.
Me: So was I wrong about God?
Peter: Apparently.
Me: Fair enough. New evidence. I’m updating my position.
Peter: Come in.
Me: One last thing. Is there a reason the streets are paved with gold? Given everything he said about wealth, that feels like a branding problem.
