“Here comes a Jack-o’-lantern
To frighten you to-night;
Made from a hollow pumpkin
With a candle for its light.
Go off! You Jack-o’-lantern!
You can not frighten me,
You’re nothing but a pumpkin
As any one can see!”
‘Jack-o’-Lantern’ – Anonymous (published by 1917). #Halloween

ALT A collage of nine photographs of orange Halloween pumpkins, carved with a variety of expressive faces. Some have cheerful smiles, heart-shaped eyes or swirling eyes, while others have sinister expressions and jagged teeth. One wears a tiny, brightly coloured knitted hat. The pumpkins are arranged against rustic backgrounds of wood, stone and autumn foliage.

Almost 90% of England's water companies are still acting illegally, still dumping huge amounts of sewage into our environment.
“People are sick of excuses,” screams Dame Angela Eagle. We've heard it all before and yet nothing, nothing changes.
One interesting note "The UK is one of only two countries in the world where the provision of water is fully privatised. The other is Chile, where water privatisation was imposed in the 1980s by a military dictatorship." Hmm? 🤔

I've been speaking to boaters trapped on the canal in #Bath
Many river-dwellers are heading onto the K&A to avoid the Avon's winter floods, but a closed tunnel means they are all crowding onto a single mile of canal
'I’m just glad to get a place' one boater told me

On 21 October, we celebrate #AppleDay. Dorset and Somerset folklore tells of Lazy Lawrence, a green-eyed pixy pony who gallops through orchards guarding apples. His name is said to refer to the inability to walk after drinking too much cider: “Lazy Lawrence has got your legs!” 🍎
