We are deeply concerned by the reported arrest of Afghan WHRD Nikbakht Arefi and members of her family by Pakistani police. Their whereabouts and legal status remain unclear. Afghan WHRDs must not be put at further risk while seeking safety and protection.

Curriculum reform must involve meaningful participation by feminist organizations, women human rights defenders and educators. We urge the ministry to review the documented changes transparently and reverse revisions that exclude women or reinforce discriminatory stereotypes.

Syria’s transition must place women’s equal citizenship at the centre of its institutions, including its classrooms.

“How much more evidence do the women of Afghanistan have to bring to invoke action?” This powerful intervention by Femena’s Zubaida Akbar captures the exhaustion of #Afghan women who continue to speak out and demand action, only for their words to fall on deaf ears. @ngowgwps

“If the WPS agenda means that women’s participation and protection are non-negotiable, why has the international community, including the UN, repeatedly allowed the Taliban to make those very rights negotiable?” — Zubaida Akbar #WPS #Afghanistan
