JUST IN: 🇾🇪🇸🇦 Yemen’s Houthis have attacked an administrative building belonging to Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, causing a fire.
🇸🇦🇴🇲🇾🇪Everyone in the Gulf is shooting. Oman is taking the calls.
Oman is the phone line of the Saudi-Houthi war. US officials met the Houthis there to protect their own truce, CNN reported, and Saudi Arabia reportedly sent the Houthis a two-week ceasefire plan through Muscat (unconfirmed). On 11 Oct a drone hit a tanker off Oman's Sohar port.
So is Oman's neutrality a shield, or a target?
Why everyone needs Muscat
→ It brokered the 2025 US-Houthi truce
→ It carried Clinton's 1999 letter to Iran
→ Its ports let Gulf oil skip Hormuz
Why it's fragile
→ The Sohar hit: the bypass isn't safe
France's "sovereign AI" just got a new shareholder: Nvidia.
Nvidia is taking minority stakes in four French startups, Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment and Entalpic, Les Echos said Tuesday. Jensen Huang announced it in Paris. No price given. Doctolib, worth €3.6bn, will build its own AI on Nvidia chips to keep patient data away from OpenAI.
So is Europe winning AI independence, or just picking a new landlord?
What France gets
→ Cash, chips, its own models
→ Patient data stays home
What Nvidia gets
→ Buyers it partly owns: circular financing
→ Machiavelli: borrowed armies win for you, then you're their captive
→ Münchau: the less dependent side holds the leverage
Owning your model is real progress ngl. But when your chip supplier is also your shareholder, sovereignty stops at the chip.
The best air defence in the world is the one that hasn't run out.
Five systems lead the field: Russia's S-400, the Franco-Italian SAMP/T, Israel's Arrow 3, and America's THAAD and Patriot.
Patriot has the best combat record, downing Russian hypersonic missiles over Ukraine.
So which one actually wins?
BREAKING: 🇮🇱🇺🇸 Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says Trump was the one who first brought up striking Iran before the elections.
This is the comparison of three desk boxes built to run AI at home, at launch price.
→ Nvidia's DGX Spark: $3,999 in Oct 2025 128 GB.
→ AMD's Ryzen AI Halo: $3,999 in June 2026, 128 GB.
→ Apple's Mac Studio M5 Ultra: $5,499 for 96 GB.
So at launch, which one was the best buy?
Launch for launch, the Spark is the pick: most memory per dollar, and first tbh.
BREAKING: 🇸🇦🇾🇪 Houthis have launched ballistic missiles over the ARAMCO headquarters in DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia.
🇺🇦🇷🇺Russia loses six soldiers for every Ukrainian, says Ukraine's ex-army chief. Counting only the dead, up to 11.
In a BBC interview out 13 October, Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi said Kyiv has stabilised the front and broken Russia's advance. His proof: Russia took just 61 sq km in the first half of 2026.
So is Russia's offensive really broken? Without numbers difficult to verify.
🇺🇸President Trump is questioning Rep. Ilhan Omar’s finances.
Her 2024 financial disclosure listed household assets between $6 million and $30 million, a sharp jump from the negative net worth she reported when she entered Congress in 2019.
Omar has since amended that filing, saying it contained accounting errors and that she is not a millionaire.
JUST NOW: OpenAI: Ex-Employee Arrested After Hidden Bug Found in Office
According to OpenAI, the FBI has arrested a former employee after an advanced eavesdropping device was found concealed in one of the company’s offices.
OpenAI says it relied on its own AI models to pinpoint the suspect and track down where the device came from.
The new arms race may be about who tells the alien story first.
Rep. Eric Burlison warns the US could suffer a "propaganda defeat" if China or Russia release UFO evidence first. The Pentagon is releasing old files, including a CIA report on a "disc-like" object over Harare airport. Researcher Simon Holland claims Moscow and Beijing got alien messages, with no independent evidence.
So is this a real race, or a contest over who looks honest?
What's real
→ Three Pentagon file batches, no proof of aliens
What's not
→ Holland's claim is unverified, and the warning rests on one interview
What the old thinkers say
→ Machiavelli: a ruler must appear honest
→ Nye: soft power is earned
No alien race, only a trust race. First to open the files wins credit for honesty, even if they show nothing.
President Donal Trump reposted the video of the zoo incident captioned: "Don't ever mess with nature! President DJT"
SpaceX wants to fly Starship more than once a day from Texas.
It asked the FAA for up to 456 launches and 912 landings a year at Starbase. The cap is 25 today. Phase 1 is 100 launches a year; the full number comes later. The FAA will run an environmental review with public meetings. Separately, SpaceX plans a $100 billion Starship site in Louisiana.
So is this just Musk's ambition, or a private company paving the road to orbit?
What it shows
→ A rocket that flies again turns launch into routine freight
→ 456 is a ceiling for the review, not an approval
What the old thinkers say
→ Mahan: whoever controls the sea lanes shapes the world
→ Bowen: launch sites are chokepoints on the way to orbit
Cheap launch is a trade route, and one company is building it. The FAA holds the gate.
🇷🇺🇯🇵 More about the Japanese journalist arrested in Russia for alleged espionnage.
Russia has shown no proof.
On 13 October the FSB, Russia's security service, said it detained a Hokkaido Shimbun journalist in Sakhalin, before leaving. The charge: gathering information on Russia's defence. A Moscow court approved nearly two months in custody.
So is this a real spy case, or Moscow taking a bargaining chip?
Why it looks like a signal
→ Russia calls Japan "unfriendly" over sanctions
→ Putin visited a disputed Kuril island in August
→ Evan Gershkovich: jailed in 2023, swapped in 2024
→ Çağaptay called Turkey's Brunson case "hostage diplomacy"
What we don't know
→ His name, the evidence, any demand
→ Tokyo's reply: none yet. Welfield says Japan avoids confrontation
A spy case with no public proof is a message with a person attached.
