Having the camera break during that scene is an absolute nightmare. Even the universe was trying to tell Nolan that scene was completely unnecessary in a 3-hour movie about the atomic bomb.
1/2. The sex scenes in Oppenheimer were never just about sex. One of them became so controversial that it briefly turned a scene about intimacy into a debate about religion, censorship, and cinema itself. But the most interesting detail isn't what happens in the scene. It's what Oppenheimer is reading when it happens.... 🧵

Park Chan-wook’s production on The Handmaiden was wild. Over 1,500 actresses auditioned with an upfront "highest level of nudity, zero negotiation" clause before Kim Tae-ri got cast. When shooting those intimate scenes, he banned all male crew from the set—including himself—and operated remote-controlled cameras from outside so only female staff were in the room.

But honestly, those explicit scenes are way too extreme, and could’ve easily tone down or been implied instead of dragged out. Strongly advised to skip for almost anyone watching at home. If you want to watch the film without those scenes, timestamps to skip them: filmiway.com/movie/the-handm…

Happiness (1998) is genuinely a film you shouldn't recommend to your worst enemy. The central plot follows a pedophile father, but that's not even the most horrifying part—it's how normal he seems. No villain music, no monster tropes, just a quiet family man. Watching him have that casual conversation with his own young son once the truth comes out that he's a pedophile is one of the most unsettling things ever put on screen. That dialogue alone is why the studio panicked and dumped it, and the film got slapped with an NC-17.
HAPPINESS was released 28 years ago today. Todd Solondz’s unflinching portrait of suburban dysfunction was dropped by its original distributor over its controversial content, but went on to become one of the most talked-about films in independent cinema.
