I’m no supporter of Donald Trump, but I’ll give him this: he’s held up a mirror to society and revealed just how many people put hatred, bigotry, and self-interest above compassion and decency. What shocks me most is how many now wear it proudly.

While many surviving Jews fled Europe to Israel after the Holocaust, much of the rest of the world had either…
~ Perpetrated it — Germany, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Fascist Italy
~ Collaborated with it — Vichy France, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Greece, parts of Yugoslavia, Ukraine, and Poland
~ Stood aside — Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey
~ Fought Germany, but did not prioritize rescuing Jews — United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union
~ Restricted or refused Jewish refugees — United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, France, and most Évian Conference states
~ Restricted Jewish escape to Palestine — United Kingdom
~ Opposed or fought the creation of a Jewish state — Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen
And if your country somehow escapes that list but sits in the New World, there is a good chance your own society was built through conquest and settlement of somebody else’s homeland.
Jews, meanwhile, are a people whose history, religion, language, archaeology, and ancestry all originate in Judea.
So spare us the lectures about the supposed moral stain of Jews establishing a state there 80 years ago. Much of the world had just murdered them, helped murder them, abandoned them, shut its doors to them, or fought to prevent them from having a country of their own. And many of the people now shouting “colonizer” live on continents colonized far more recently by their own societies.
Seriously: STFU.

IDEA FOR NATIONAL UNITY THAT WILL SAVE DEMOCRACY
The Senate races in Michigan and Texas are both approximately 50-50 in the prediction markets.
In Texas, the Republicans have nominated a generationally corrupt and unethical candidate. In Michigan, the Democrats are about to nominate a socialist with a history of anti-American statements.
So how about...
Republicans endorse Talarico in Texas
Democrats endorse Rogers in Michigan
Nobody clearly loses since both seats are approximately a toss-up.
The parties can fight it out for Senate control elsewhere on the map.
But everyone comes together to put country over party, and we begin our national healing.
It wouldn't take many. Just if a handful of Democrat and Republican Senators and Congressmen came together, a few major media personalities, some big donors, etc, it could be enough to send a signal to swing voters that Paxton and El-Sayed are unacceptable, which can decide the elections since these are close races anyway. The idea that these two awful candidates should both be rejected could be a meme that cuts through an always cynical news cycle and inspires people across the world.
Why can't this happen? Sure, you can think of a million reasons why. But this is what patriotism looks like. Let's live up to the portrayal of our democracy in The West Wing.

Generation X (1965–1980):
• Ages 46 to 61
• Looking somewhere between 29 and “none of your business”
• Didn’t grow up sheltered — we were basically turned loose outdoors
• Independent at 10; still refusing to act like adults at 50
• Our childhood would make a modern parent group chat implode
Which is why our internal mantra remains: “It’ll work out. I’ve got this.”

This piece by @FranklinFoer is crucial for anyone that cares about the US-Israel relationship (it should be translated to Hebrew as well if possible @JeffreyGoldberg).
Every paragraph in this piece is the perfect indictment of Netanyahu, but for me this was above all -
“Every gesture that might have plausibly improved Israel’s case—the dismissal of a minister, a plan for Gaza, a show of openness to Palestinian statehood—would have threatened his governing coalition and put him in legal jeopardy. He always chose himself.”
And this one “Netanyahu’s legacy is Israel’s isolation. Perhaps that wasn’t preventable. His failure is that he never tried to avoid this fate.”

The West humiliated Russia in the 1990s. This war is the consequence.’
I’ve heard this in every language, from every podium. It is history rewritten backwards.
Recall what actually happened to defeated Russia: no occupation. No reparations. No tribunal. It kept its nuclear arsenal and its UN veto. Its debts were forgiven and refinanced. It was handed IMF billions and a seat at the G8 — a club of democracies admitting a wounded autocracy out of hope.
Now recall an actually humiliated nation: Germany, 1945. Occupied. Partitioned. Cities in ash, leaders hanged, guilt taught to its children by law.
Germany became the most peaceful democracy in Europe. Russia became this.
So spare me the humiliation theory. Russia was not humiliated after the Cold War. It was indulged — and it read every kindness as weakness, every gift as tribute.
The grievance was never mistreatment. The grievance was lost dominion.
Empires do not mourn their wounds. They mourn their slaves.

This is really incredible. Docs released by Trump tonight confirm RUSSIA tried to spread claims Biden was engaged in criminal activity vis-a-vis Burisma and that it advanced those narratives "with US officials" and planed a "high-profile corruption scandal... at the peak of the 2020 US presidential campaign."

A reminder on the evolution of 2020 "stolen election" theories: First we had mail-in fraud + Dominion + "illegal law changes" (Nov–Dec 2020) then → Georgia election workers + foreign interference/Italygate (Dec 2020–Jan 2021, concurrent) then → 2,000 Mules (ballot stuffers) (2022) then → social-media-censorship revival via Twitter Files (Dec 2022) then → renewed foreign-interference claims (2024–present).
Through all this, we've had:
1. Dominion getting $787 million from Fox News for defamation
2. Rudy Giuliani admitting he lied about Georgia election workers (and the jury awarding the workers $148 million)
3. Sidney Powell admitting in court "no reasonable person would conclude" her claims of election fraud “were truly statements of fact"
4. The Gateway Pundit retracting claims of election fraud in Atlanta
5. The Media company that put out D'Souza's 2,000 Mules film apologizing and removing it after law enforcement proved it falsely accused people of fraud
6. Newsmax and One America News Network (OANN) settling with Smartmatic
It is NOT true that none of these allegations have seen a court room. Most have. Of the 64 cases of fraud that Trump and his legal team filed in court, 30 were dismissed that included a hearing on the merits, 14 were voluntarily dismissed by Trump and his allies before a hearing, and just 20 were dismissed for lack of standing before a hearing on the merits. One case, involving far too few votes to impact the election, prevailed in Pennsylvania. That case was about voter ID deadlines, not election fraud.
Those are the facts.
Whatever happens Thursday night, please try to remember them.

Psychopathologies as aberrant as Trump's are neither controllable, nor curable. He cannot pivot, sit still, shut up, or stop. He cannot see beyond himself. EVER. He cannot feel empathy, shame, or contrition. Not that he WON'T ... he CAN'T! He is an emotional void, comprised only of impulse, rage, malice, needs, urges and cravings. He lies constantly, brazenly, because he doesn't speak to convey information, he speaks to further a result that he craves. And some of the things he says, he says simply because he can't NOT say them. He's pure "id." Pure self.
You couldn't build a worse person in a laboratory.

Hilarious takedown of the world's most boring sport. It made me laugh out loud several times. I love @Quillette even more now. 😅
I don't think I've ever managed to sit through a soccer match while paying uninterrupted attention for more than ten minutes. I'm simply bored out of my skull. And the only thing more tedious than soccer is soccer commentary.
Still, I'll give Belgium's next match against Spain another chance. (I slept like a baby while they were pummeling the US—it was 2 a.m. here.)
That said, I'll happily concede one enormous point in soccer's favor: international football has probably done more to promote racial harmony and mutual understanding than all the NGO reports, political parties, diversity workshops, and media pundits combined.
Now on to the indictment (with some hyperbole, but that's what makes it funny).
Nothing ever happens in soccer:
"Every four years the world gathers to remind Americans that soccer is boring. The World Cup arrives, a billion people weep with joy, and everyone who wasn't indoctrinated before the age of six sits there waiting for something…anything to happen. Then suddenly it almost does. Then just as quickly it doesn't. Then it almost does again. This is the rhythm of the world's most boring game."
"Soccer just drones on—pass it back, pass it sideways, pass it back, pass it sideways, lose it, win it back, pass it back again—for ninety minutes, and almost nothing ever finishes. It’s all middle."
"Put these statistics together and the incentives are perverse. Giving up a goal is catastrophic, and the chance of scoring isn’t worth the risk of getting caught upfield when the other team counterattacks. So from the opening whistle the smart play isn’t to attack—it’s to play not to lose. Hold your shape, keep everyone back, pass it sideways, and wait for a mistake."
It's dumb luck:
"One of the best ways to determine how much luck is involved in a sport is to measure how often the worse team beats the better one. By this measure soccer is the most random major sport there is. The favourite fails to win 45 per cent of the time."
It bans the one thing humans excel at:
"It’s not that dribbling, passing, and shooting with your feet is unimpressive. It’s that it’s impressive the way a dog walking on its hind legs is impressive: the miracle is that it can be done at all, not that this is the highest use of the organism. It would be like a version of basketball where you’re only allowed to dribble with your head. The best players would be some of the best athletes on earth—and they’d be demonstrating nothing except how much human talent can be squandered by arbitrarily banning the one thing we’re good at, provided you force enough children to practice."
The intellectualism is insufferable:
"The more a sport has to be intellectualised, the more boring it is to watch. And with the exception of baseball, the world’s second most boring sport, no sport is intellectualised like soccer. Tell a soccer fan how bored you are at 0-0 with five minutes left and you’ll be told you don’t understand the buildup, the spacing, the shape, the press, the movement off the ball. It’s a status move: the less obvious the entertainment, the more refined you get to feel for claiming to see it."
Even the elite media implicitly admit it's boring:
"Nobody bloviates for two thousand words about the hidden genius of a zero-zero tie. When a sport is genuinely thrilling, the writing is about the sport. When it isn’t, the writing gets very spiritual fast. Suddenly it’s about mortality and belonging and the human capacity for grace, the prose swelling to fill the silence where the excitement was supposed to be."
Conclusion:
"But that's why it’s so tragic. Soccer takes the largest, most brutally filtered athletic talent pool on earth and wastes it by paying players millions of dollars to jog around in circles for ninety minutes and try to score once with their feet."

The Unholy Trinity—Turkey, Iran, and Qatar—have Trump completely cornered.
Turkey: Erdogan refuses to give up Russian anti-aircraft systems? No problem. He gets called a "great leader" and has sanctions lifted.
Iran: The regime attacks shipping lanes in the Gulf? No problem. The Ayatollahs are excused as "tough but rational."
Qatar: Destabilizes the region by funding them both (while bankrolling his latest 747 toy).
This approach is bringing unchecked havoc to the world. This is no friend to democracy, the U.S., Israel or anyone else for that matter.
Megalomania is running completely unchecked, and there is absolutely no one left in the room with the spine to say no.

There have been 4 major revolutions in the past 250 years: American, French, Russian, and Chinese. Only one led to individual rights and prosperity. The others led to mass death and tyranny. The US revolution was unique because it said two things: 1. Our rights come from God not from the govt. 2. Humans are power -hungry so we need to limit govt power. So the next time someone attacks the nation of one revolution that succeeded and recycles the the idea of those that miserably failed, you can ask them: are you ignorant, or malicious?
