The New York Times is suing Brave, accusing the browser of helping users bypass paywalls and letting its AI copy paid articles.
The lawsuit claims Brave's AI reproduced around 87% of a paywalled NYT story word for word. It also accuses the company of sharing scraped news content with AI companies like Anthropic, Perplexity and xAI.
The Times also points to comments from Brave employees who reportedly called subscription messages a "paywall nag".
