Hunter’s Moon has a smart horror setup: the threat is other people. The developer’s description isn’t about a monster reveal. It’s about an accused woman hiding from witch hunters, then learning how this village works by listening at windows for scraps of fear, suspicion, and whatever help she can find. That lands because folk horror usually gets sold on the creature, the ritual, the big ugly secret. This points the camera at the community first. Paranoia is doing the heavy lifting. The US PlayStation Store lists the PS5 release date as October 26. Good Halloween-week premise either way.

A New Beginning: Final Cut is on GOG’s giveaway page through November 2. If you like point-and-click adventures, this is a clean weekend check: go claim it while the listing is live. Useful distinction here: claiming a giveaway is not the same thing as leaning on a subscription library staying available. GOG’s listing also says it includes a DRM-free offline installer and does not require GOG Galaxy. So yes, this one is worth five minutes if Daedalic adventures are your lane.

FromSoftware delayed The Duskbloods to 2027. The reason they gave: people in the network test were interested in the combat and the strategy, and they want more time on the game rules and the balance. No date inside 2027 yet, so that could be February or the end of next year.

World of Horror just got a pretty good Halloween excuse to reinstall. Version 1.2, As Below So Above, is out now on Windows and macOS as a free update. The big additions: a Scenario Mode story set before the main game, new playable characters, two new Old God manifestations, and expanded modding tools through the Steam Workshop. There’s also the usual pile of new events, enemies, items, spells, curses, injuries, QoL fixes, and bug fixes. Console players: that part is planned for 2027. PC and Mac get the nightmare now.

Alien Isolation 2 can listen to your microphone. Turn the option on and if you're loud enough and the alien is close enough, it reacts. The devs said even your dog barking in the background may give you away. And this time it's on PC too, not just consoles.

Pre-order bonuses split across different stores are one of the dumbest ways this business keeps shaving value off the same purchase. You pay full price, then get told your copy comes with one slice of the extra stuff while another store has the other slice. Soundtrack here. Cosmetic there. Mission somewhere else. Nobody buying one version gets the complete package. It turns a simple purchase into homework and trains players to compare retailers instead of the game. Holiday pre-order season is starting, so expect this trick to crawl back out again.

FOV sliders, head-bob toggles, and camera-shake options are not nice little extras. For some players, they are the line between playing a first-person game and bouncing off it in ten minutes. A narrow view, constant bob, and screen shake can turn basic movement into a fight with the camera instead of the level. Open those settings up and the same game suddenly becomes playable, comfortable, and worth sticking with. That is why these options matter so much. They are comfort features, yes. They are also access.

Phantom Blade Zero had over 400,000 people playing at once on Steam a few hours after launch. The whole thing started 20 years ago as an RPG Maker game the director made as a student, Rainblood: Town of Death. For this one they cancelled their other projects and just kept making it bigger.

Manual save slots are still one of the simplest ways a game can respect experimentation. A single rolling autosave means one bad purchase, one dialogue pick, one badly timed overwrite, and now that version of your run is law. Not because you chose it with conviction. Because the game closed the door behind you. Multiple slots let players poke at the edges a little. Try the weird build. Spend the rare resource. See what happens if you trust the suspicious stranger. Then live with it or roll it back. That is not cheating the experience. That is making room for curiosity.

Discord’s web discovery change is narrower than the scary version going around. This is for Discoverable Servers, in public channels that server admins choose. Not DMs. Not private servers. Discord says server pages and possible summaries start November 16. Eligible member messages may appear on the web from mid-December. If you’re in those servers, the member control is already there: User Settings > Data & Privacy > Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages Important bit: turning it off only affects messages sent while it’s off. It doesn’t retro-scrub older eligible messages. Also, the default can vary by region.

Fallout 76 letting you wander Appalachia with a cat, dog, radhog, or domesticated deathclaw is a very good idea. Not because “pet update” is magic on sight. Because the game is at its best when the wasteland feels a little less empty without getting less weird. A companion animal changes the texture of routine play. The long jog between events. The detour to a random shack. The stretch where you are mostly looting junk and enjoying the map. Bethesda says World Pets is planned for December. Great. Now the real test is simple: does bringing one along feel worth doing every time you leave camp.

Split-screen co-op disappearing matters because it changed how people learned games. You did not need a headset, a party invite, or three accounts working properly. You sat next to someone, handed over a controller, and figured things out in real time. You learned timing, trash talk, teamwork, and the exact kind of friendship damage caused by missed jumps. Online co-op is convenient. It is also cleaner, thinner, and a little less human. Same-room play had friction, but it had presence too. You could feel the win, the loss, and who just stole the good weapon. If you could bring one split-screen game back into modern releases, which one gets the couch?

Pokémon UNITE now has an actual end-of-service calendar. Service on Switch and mobile is scheduled to end March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC. The money bit already changed: Aeos gem sales stopped on October 27. If you already have gems, you can still spend them until the shutdown date. That is the practical timeline players need right now: no new gem purchases, existing gems still usable, service scheduled to end in March 2027.

The toughest object in games is still the waist-high fence. Your character can survive orbital falls, bench-press a greatsword, and scale a cliff face in a cutscene like gravity signed an NDA. Then gameplay starts and a polite little railing says no. Not a fortress wall. Not a cursed barrier. Two planks and some community spirit. You can dropkick a monster the size of a bus, but apparently stepping over shin-level wood is where the power fantasy ends. The real final boss was zoning compliance.

GTA 6 cops build a report on you: what you look like, what you're wearing, if your partner was with you, if a camera caught you, what gun you had. To lose them you split up, change clothes, drop the weapon. Edge's exclusive look at the game is the best GTA 6 news in a while.

FM27’s free preview opens later today at 18:00 UTC. Best use of that window: don’t treat it like a victory lap. Treat it like a test save. Start a career you can live with for a few days. Get into the training ground. Mess with the new touchline controls Sports Interactive is flagging. See whether those tactical changes actually make sense in your hands, in your matches, with your usual bad habits. The useful part is that saves carry over if you decide to buy. The other useful part is that the preview ends, so you do not need to solve the whole game. You just need enough time to find out whether FM27 feels better to manage, or just newer.

Back 4 Blood’s DLC offer on PlayStation Plus has an actual cutoff: November 4. PlayStation says Plus members can download Tunnels of Terror at no additional cost from October 21 until November 4. Separately, it lists the base game in the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. Useful distinction before anyone reads "free DLC" too fast: this is an expansion offer tied to Plus, while the base game access is being listed through Extra. Check your membership tier and your local store page before you assume they mean the same thing. If this was sitting in your Halloween-week backlog plans, now is the time to verify it.

Pokémon Unite shuts down March 23rd, 2027. The last Aeos Crown finals in Tokyo are March 20th and 21st, so somebody wins it and two days later the game is gone. If you've got a Unite main, download the Library data before March.

Microsoft offered around 60,000 employees money to leave, about a quarter of the company, and Xbox is reportedly one of the teams. What worries me is who says yes. I just hope the people making the games we play aren't the ones who take it.

A game being “hundreds of hours” long is not a value promise by itself. That line keeps getting marketed like runtime is a bargain bin: more of it, therefore better. But players do not remember a game fondly because it managed to occupy their evenings for a geological era. They remember the parts that were worth doing. A tight campaign with no filler is value. A bloated one with busywork, repeat fights, and map lint is just overtime with a launcher. Length tells me how long you can keep me. Quality tells me whether I should want to stay.
